    Heyall

A friend of mine has been quite interested in Ubuntu for a while, and is in doubt about installing it. But he is into music and uses some hardware that I'm not known with.

Re: The Gnome Shell themes thread... ...

Good call, it's waaaay easier to find themes this way :)
I've been trying some editing myself but no luck so far. If there was a possibility to add a gnome shell background that would be great tbh...

    Re: Galaxium Messenger

Is Galaxium still any good, I just never hear from it again. Can't find any karmic PPA's either.

    Otherwise, and alternative?
  14. Re: what do you do at home when you're feeling bored?

Mmm, if there is internet I usually start installing stuff on Ubuntu to end up with a ****** up Ubuntu installation. After that I reinstall Ubuntu and configure it again :)

    Otherwise I try to...

    [xubuntu] Re: External HD?

The speed of the OS is going to be limited to the hdd/usb speed. Best thing you could do is, as far as I know. Get a longer sata/e-sata cabel that goes outside your PC. That way you keep that speed.

Poll: Re: Are you using gnome-shell or have you tried ?

It's still alpha and there is no 'easy' way of customizing it with a settings manager. You can however edit the .css and .js files to customize it :)

    I had to remove gnome-shell, I really...

Poll: Re: Are you using gnome-shell or have you tried ?

    Yes, just do this:

sudo aptitude install gnome-shell (either from the repo's or the add the PPA first)
and then gnome-shell --replace. When you don't like it just log out or quit the terminal....

Poll: Re: Are you using gnome-shell or have you tried ?

yea it sure is stable for an alpha :)

Are you using it with an dock or something? Because I can imagine that the critics who use it without such enhancement hate it :)

Poll: Re: Are you using gnome-shell or have you tried ?

Oke I got the latest then... Still think the smaller + and - icons really suck :(

Other than that I really LOVE gnome-shell, but only when combined with Docky for windows switching.

Poll: Re: Are you using gnome-shell or have you tried ?

In the repo version there is still the 'big' + icon to add a workspace and a 'big' - icon on the workspace to remove it. Whilest in the PPA version there are these miniscule little - and +buttons....

Poll: Re: Are you using gnome-shell or have you tried ?

After I had the repo version installed I liked it allot to be honest. But the PPA version is worse. I really hope they are not going to keep it as it is now. It's just counter productive :(
