I have 3 partitions with 24.04. on ONE partition i have sometime enabled proposed just for the time needed to install a single package and then DISABLED proposed.
You need run
sudo apt update otherwise synaptic does know proposed
Then in synaptic go to Preferences -> Distribution and set version from noble-proposed
Do
sudo gted /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu.sources
and add 'noble-proposed' as shown here
Types: deb
URIs: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/
Suites: noble noble-updates noble-backports...
Problem is due to bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/2046844 so probably affect Firefox and many other apps in Ubuntu Noble, where AppArmor restrictions exist but not on...
Ok, done dist-upgrade, system boot ok Thanks
corrado@corrado-n4-nn-0310:~$ apt policy gnome-shell
gnome-shell:
Installed: 46~rc-0ubuntu1~bpo24.04.1
Candidate: 46~rc-0ubuntu1~bpo24.04.1
...
I have done update+upgrade, nautilus has been installed but GNOME shell was kept back.
I have logs and crash file if needed.
I think this is related to the PPA because on a different partition...
After installing PPA system no longer boots.
GNOME Shell 46 NOT installed
After installing Your PPA problem disappeared
Thanks

For the change HZ 250 -> 1000 see:
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/enable-low-latency-features-in-the-generic-ubuntu-kernel-for-24-04/42255
For Software & Updates the bug is: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-properties/+bug/2053228
The problem with FireFox.deb comes from: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/2046844
so I'm afraid the solution is far away
FINALLY the latest ISO works, for both Ubuntu and Xubuntu (if you are connected to the internet)
Today install SUCCESSFUL from ISO dated 2024-03-06!!!
I have the same problem with Firefox trunk https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/2055973
but seems common with Firefox.deb
I have no problem with FF snap, I sometimes starts firefox nightly just for test.
Firefox.deb crash with kernel 6.8, Firefox snap is unaffected.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/2055973
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/2056123
let's console ourselves by thinking that Ubuntu also has an installer that doesn't work: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/2055294
Good new for calamares, but what about Xubuntu new bootstrap installer?
But 6.8 is already arrived in Ubuntu Noble:
corrado@corrado-n2-nn-0220:~$ inxi -Scx
System:
Host: corrado-n2-nn-0220 Kernel: 6.8.0-11-generic arch: x86_64 bits: 64
compiler: gcc v: 13.2.0...
The new ISO is still in error: https://bugs.launchpad.net/subiquity/+bug/2055634
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/2055294
Still with ISO dated 01-Mar
To check status for current ISO see: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-cdimage/+livefs/ubuntu/noble/ubuntu
To view past ISOs click om "See removed and superseded builds too"
Bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/subiquity/+bug/2054806 is still open and Unassigned so It seems like no one cares.
Still same problem with ISO dated 2024-02-29
Try with:
gsettings set org.gnome.mutter attach-modal-dialogs false
