After installing Ubuntu, the sound coming out of my laptop speakers sounds much worse in quality, and my headphones slot doesn't seem to work at all....

My only other security option is WEP...I'm actually moving house in 2 weeks so for fear of having everyone else in the house having to reconfigure their wireless settings I might just wait and see if...
