  1. [ubuntu] Re: How to make desktop appear without a monitor

Thank you for this suggestion. I am not familiar with x2go yet. So how does this work? Does X2go replace VNC completely or do I install X2go and then log into the computer using VNC?
  2. [ubuntu] How to make desktop appear without a monitor

I recently installed Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on a HP Compaq Elite 8300 PC. My purpose was to connect this PC to my network and if I need anything done in the network, I would control this PC using Real VNC...
  3. Re: How to remote access from Outside the LAN

What I meant by "private IP" is that it is the IP given to my computer by my router or dhcp server. Our connection has 1 static IP provided by the ISP, then the ISP's router provides the IP to...
  4. Re: How to remote access from Outside the LAN

I'm looking for something without 3rd party subscription.
  5. Re: How to remote access from Outside the LAN

Hi thefu, I actually tried x2go. I installed it. The viewer side is asking me to put an IP address. If the viewer is within the LAN it is as easy an entering the local IP address, but through the...

Hi the cog, yes. Basically they will be on the same subnet but different network. I think your answer makes the most sense. Thank you. I will try something else then.

  10. How can I prevent rogue DHCP services/servers?

    Hi,

Every now and then, someone plugs in a router into our LAN with its own DHCP. This DHCP starts handling IPs to some computers and these computers cannot communicate with the rest of the...

  12. Re: How much bandwidth does Remote Desktop Access (RDP protocol) consume?

I checked out SPICE. It looks really cool! Thank you for the referral. Ill go try it out.
  13. Re: How much bandwidth does Remote Desktop Access (RDP protocol) consume?

I agree with having multiple users per VM instead of 1 is to 1. The 1 is to 1 is due to software licence issues. With Linux, it's not a problem.
  14. Re: How much bandwidth does Remote Desktop Access (RDP protocol) consume?

ll do the testing and scaling up slowly.

First, I would like to thank you for really answering my questions on the more than 20+ threads Ive been writing on. The system Im doing is a work in...
  15. Re: What is your minimum requirement for DHCP and/or a DNS server?

1 VM can handle the 5 subnets, and that should be able to free up resources, but considering that DHCP consumes such a low amount of resources, will it be more secure to have them in separate VMs? ...
  16. How much bandwidth does Remote Desktop Access (RDP protocol) consume?

    Dear everyone,

I want to create a server which will virtualize office computers here at work. The virtual computers' desktop will be accessible through remote access either by RDP or some other...
  17. Re: What is your minimum requirement for DHCP and/or a DNS server?

Well, none of the DHCP should be available on the internet. Besides the DHCP, Im thinking of putting another VM to run a firewall such as PFsense (or ubuntu running squid), as well as virtualized...
  18. Re: What is your minimum requirement for DHCP and/or a DNS server?

Yeah, I plan to virtualize some of the office computers and have the access their "computer" through remote desktop protocol. I need to test how many we can put in before they start experiencing...
  19. Re: Can more than 1 VM share a physical NIC?

OK. so the physical NIC is overwritten by the driver. That is so cool. So that's how it works. OK, Im putting all of these concepts into my design.
You mentioned hypervisor. Do I need this if I...
  20. Re: What is your minimum requirement for DHCP and/or a DNS server?

  21. Re: What is your minimum requirement for DHCP and/or a DNS server?

There will be a total of 5 networks, so Ill be putting up 5VMs with a NIC attached to each one

The smallest network just has around 5 computers
The largest network has around 30 computers. It...
  22. What is your minimum requirement for DHCP and/or a DNS server?

    Hi guys,

I am currently designing my network. I will be virtualizing my DHCP and DNS servers. I have the impression that the DHCP can be handled by small consumer grade products as well as...
  23. Re: Can more than 1 VM share a physical NIC?

Is the MAC address physically embedded in the NIC? If I have 3 VMs sharing a NIC on bridge mode, will the MAC addresses of each VM be different? If yes, I presume it is the VM that generates the...
  24. Re: Can more than 1 VM share a physical NIC?

    thanks. This is very helpful
  25. Re: Can more than 1 VM share a physical NIC?

Is there any particular reason why I would use NAT over bridged or vice versa? Is it like just preference?
