I have a Dell laptop (running Ubuntu 11.04) which is going back for repair under warranty as it doesn't turn on at all (7 beeps - indicates CPU or motherboard on the fritz).

Dell support indicated...

Boot up from your XP CD and do a Repair install of XP.

Once XP is up and running, you will have to reinstall Grub in order to boot into Linux as well, but that's pretty easy to do from a Ubuntu CD
