[ubuntu] Re: Unable to access jarfile

Make sure whatever version of OpenJDK or Oracle Java you use is compatible with Minecraft 1.8 (which is what Forge 1.8 is based on)

My guess would be Java 1.8 flavor but I could be wrong.

Stripped down server for QEMU KVM

Has anyone compiled a list of packages that are safe to remove from a standard install for the purpose of running the machine as a KVM host?

  3. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu Server headless 18.04.4 LTS - Segmentation fault (core dumped)

That's great. Thanks for letting us know what you did to solve it. You can edit the thread and select the "[SOLVED]" dropdown so others know.
  4. Re: Do i use LAMP or manually Install the php, apache2, mysql?

Well, he just asked what's different...thus I gave some various reasons (but not all-inclusive) regarding differences.
  5. Re: Do i use LAMP or manually Install the php, apache2, mysql?

Personal/small/medium sites typically do not. But sites with significant traffic such as popular sites or business web applications do require the ability to scale. Uptime is the other...
  6. Re: Do i use LAMP or manually Install the php, apache2, mysql?

    Yes

You can install the separate components and end up with a similar install using the pre-package but you are restricted in the design flexibility when using the package.

    Flexibility in...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu Server headless 18.04.4 LTS - Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Make sure your connection to the Internet is solid and DNS is working flawlessly.

I have not seen that error before but 1st thing I would do is to delete the local cache that "apt-get update"...

[server] Re: Keeping Nextcloud and expanding

You might want to consider turning it into a virtual server and host multiple, separate virtual machines. Creating an all-in-one solution AND connecting it to the Internet is asking for...
  9. Re: Unbelievable issues on installing Ubuntu server

Take it from another 20+ year Windows guy, that means little other than knowing the high-level view of how things work. Linux and how it is designed works quite different...so as Yoda once said,...
  10. [SOLVED] Re: Updated netplan settings fail to connect to internet

If you made no changes, the problem might be external to that server. Make sure that IP address is not being used elsewhere on your LAN or you will run into more issues.

[SOLVED] Re: Trying to Diagnose Weird SSH Issue

I don't know about your specific scenario but we had to disable 2.4 GHz on our wifi because our device would shift everyone on the faster 5.0 band down to 2.4 if a single device connected on...
  12. [server] Re: Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS Server Edition : net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

I doubt the problem lies in the web code. It is more-likely in how nginx was installed / configured.

Go back to the basics and make sure you can view a super-simply index.htm that just says...
  13. Re: HA Virtual IP on 18.04 Not Pingable outside of VLAN

Ah, gotcha. Not sure why the VIP is not accessible from the other VLAN. My servers/workstations are on different VLANs and I did not see such an issue when accessing the VIP from workstations.

  14. Re: HA Virtual IP on 18.04 Not Pingable outside of VLAN

You need 4 IP addresses. Three IP addresses need to be normal LAN-only IPs and each server needs to be watching the other servers non-virtual IP to determine availability. The other is an external...
  15. Re: Is it still possible to set up Ubuntu 18.04 as an AD Domain Controller?

I think you are going about it in the wrong order. When provisioning a new domain, all samba configs need to be wiped.

I started to document how to setup a controller but got side-tracked and...

Re: Samba join active directory domain

Ah, so it was a multi-nic routing issue. While eth0 was active, traffic was trying to route through that gateway?

Re: Samba join active directory domain

With a DNS update failure, are you sure it is trying to resolve DNS from the remote AD server or is it trying to resolve it locally itself?

Also, you might need to ensure the FQDN of the AD/DNS...

How are you copying files to the mounted location? There might be optional flags that can be specified to ensure that the timestamp is preserved.

  21. [SOLVED] Re: Installling MariaDB with phpmyadmin access

It is best to let the database server just be a database server. You could setup a different machine to be a web server though and plop the adminer file on it. I have a tutorial on how to setup an...
  22. [SOLVED] Re: Installling MariaDB with phpmyadmin access

I think you were just fine with MariaDB which is a superior product to MySQL.

You might want to look at alternatives to PHPMySQL...maybe a single PHP file called Adminer

    If possible, I would...
