  4. [SOLVED] Any issues with Kubuntu on system76 laptops?

Thinking about buying a system76 laptop but as soon as I'd get it, I'd wipe it and install the latest Kubuntu on it. Has anyone tried this, and are there any issues? Are there any specific system76...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Installing Ubuntu 22.04 with encryped LVM - question about swap

Thanks for all the explanations gentlemen, some good tips in here. I also saw in the arch wiki swap page there was a link to a Linus Torvals mailing list message where he seems to dispute the use of...

I've installed Ubuntu 22.04 on my laptop with the default Erase and install Ubuntu option, with the encrypted LVM box ticked. It gave me this:

  7. Re: Is there a guide somewhere detailing each item in the startup applications app?

Thanks for the detailed response as always TheFu. I really was only asking about the GUI app called "Startup Applications" in stock Ubuntu w/ Gnome, and all the entries mentioned in there (perhaps I...
  8. Is there a guide somewhere detailing each item in the startup applications app?

I recently realized that for the life of me I can't find any good documentation on what each startup item exactly is/does (in the Ubuntu startup applications app). Some are obvious but others not as...

Ah cool, didn't know that. I'll check it out.

    Any others anyone know about?
  11. Which minimal WM has the simplest config?

By simple I mean for example just a text file that is very well annotated, has clear instructions and options laid out, no haskell or lua knowledge needed, etc.

    Re: Hostname thread

I don't know why I never got creative with this...I always just used something descriptive but boring like "user1397-laptop" or "xubuntu-acer". You just got me thinking though...perhaps I'll follow...

  16. How to get rounded corners, borders in MATE menu?

I'm running Ubuntu MATE, I removed the default menu and added the "MATE Menu" to my panel. I'm using all default themes/settings. The menu is very boxy and doesn't seem to really have a noticeable...

Re: Ubuntu Software - mea culpa

That's open source software under the Apache license released by Google and packaged for the ubuntu repos. It's not directly from Google's website such as Google Chrome, which is also proprietary.

  19. Poll: Re: I would love a Rolling Ubuntu! (Keep the LTS)

Honestly, it wouldn't be a bad idea for Canonical to keep the LTS and keep promoting it as the standard default install, and then for anyone willing to test out the next version have a more-or-less...

Re: 5 Things We (Secretly All) Miss About Ubuntu

I definitely don't miss the wifi issues, although I never had many. The other ones make me a bit nostalgic, but by far the one I miss the most is the bustle of the forums. The cafe simply isn't the...

    Re: M&M (Microsoft and Money).

I'd argue that Windows 7 was their best release so far. Windows 10 has many issues and unnecessary bloat. Obviously all opinion but still, I know I'm not the only one (to quote Sam Smith)

Re: Good gaming laptop under $550-ish?

I don't recommend laptops for gaming period, but if you want to do some light gaming and can only afford one computer (which has to be a laptop for school like you say), then I would just go to...

I think it is precisely these assumptions or pre-conceived notions that hold as back as a species. We as consumers are too idle and don't pressure companies enough. I guess we are comfortable...
