  1. Dual booting Powerbook G4 from USB - fresh install failure :-(

Has anyone managed to install Mac OS X 10.5.4 via USB on a PowerBook G4?

I acquired a Powerbook G4 with 1.5GB of RAM, and am trying to do a fresh install of Mac OS X 10.5
    in preparation for dual...
  2. Can I have normal scrollbars again, please?

Ubuntu 20.04 is nice and all, but the scrollbars in gedit are... awful.
I can get them to show up all the time with
    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface overlay-scrolling false
    but they...
  3. Nvidia gtx 1080 black screen after 'ubuntu-drivers install'?

    Hi all!
    Installing http://www.cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current from today (timestamp 2020-01-24 07:49)
on an i9-9900K with a gtx 1080 graphics card went just fine.
    However, 'sudo...
  4. Re: Crash in program built with address sanitizer

Still happening. Reproduced on two Hades but not on a Skull.
It moves around a bit (to different unit test programs entirely) if I change unrelated code, but remains 100% reproducible.
    It only...
  5. Crash in program built with address sanitizer

I'm getting this on exit of a couple of our unit tests when the library and test are built with asan:

    ==7297==Processing thread 7180.

  6. Ubuntu 19.10 wouldn't install on top of 18.04 until I removed all partitions

A Skull Canyon (I think booting in classic mode) was running ubuntu 18.04.
I downloaded 19.10 onto a usb stick and installed.
Installation went bellyup with some error message about two partitions...
  7. Re: USB keys mount at /mount/$user/foo, but USB phones mount at /run/user/1000/gvfs/m

Yeah, I've used other tools, but that was before I knew the OS already automounted the MTP device somewhere.

Maybe it's time to file a bug.
  8. Re: USB keys mount at /mount/$user/foo, but USB phones mount at /run/user/1000/gvfs/m

I *like* where normal usb storage is mounted.

I don't like where MTP storage is mounted. Can *that* be configured?
  9. USB keys mount at /mount/$user/foo, but USB phones mount at /run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp ?

    Hi!

As https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Mount/USB says, USB thumb drives are mounted at /mount/$username/foo.
Splendid, I can cd to that easily.
    (Evidently that's done by udisks2.)

    Alas,...
  10. Re: How to install Bionic on Hades Canyon (nuc8i7hvk/nuc8i7hnb) with Vega M GPU suppo

Ubuntu 18.04.2 (which has the HWE kernel and graphics) happily supports Hades Canyon, yay!

Fun fact: I hear that the
2nd network interface on the hades is named differently depending on if the...
  11. Installing Ubuntu 18.04.2 on Dell 8930 with dual boot win10

Hi! I've been installing Ubuntu 18.04 on Dell machines for a while now. My recipe for installing 18.04.2 on a Dell 8930 while preserving the Win10 installation as dual boot works pretty slick... if...
  12. Anyone else notice jankiness in 18.04.2 dailies?

    I just filed https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1814607
for a half-second recurring display hang on 18.04.2 daily build.
This is on the new Frankencpu from Intel + AMD, it's an i7...
  13. Re: How to install Bionic on Hades Canyon (nuc8i7hvk/nuc8i7hnb) with Vega M GPU supp

ironstorm, thanks for the tips! I'll try that approach sometime.

Now that 18.10 is out, people should just use that if they can, I think. I'm still using 18.04 because my company needs LTS.
    ...
  14. Re: How to install Bionic on Hades Canyon (nuc8i7hvk/nuc8i7hnb) with Vega M GPU suppo

I used the unsigned kernel because I didn't know any better.
  15. [server] Re: Hades Canyon NUC install Ubuntu Without Secure Boot

As of today, I was able to disable secure boot after installing 18.04 and updating. In fact, I had to in order to silence the new grub warnings...
  16. Re: How to install Bionic on Hades Canyon (nuc8i7hvk/nuc8i7hnb) with Vega M GPU suppo

Update for the 4.19.1 kernel, with a happy little note encouraging you
to turn off secure boot in bios to avoid scary apt postinstall warnings.

Seems to work here; passes the fishgl test, anyway....
  17. Re: How to install Bionic on Hades Canyon (nuc8i7hvk/nuc8i7hnb) with Vega M GPU suppo

happy news: with the above 4.19rc2 setup, it's better than it was a month or two ago, in that it now supports three 4k displays side by side horizontally; the limit is now 16k x 16k rather than 8k x...
  18. Re: How to install Bionic on Hades Canyon (nuc8i7hvk/nuc8i7hnb) with Vega M GPU suppo

Incidentally, because the Hades Canyon is capable of driving so many displays, it's tempting to try it with three 4k displays.

If you do, and one display just won't show up, you may have run into...
  19. Re: How to install Bionic on Hades Canyon (nuc8i7hvk/nuc8i7hnb) with Vega M GPU suppo

    Annoyingly, as mentioned in https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005545/mini-pcs.html,
BIOS displays a different name for the product:

NUC8i7HNK is identified in BIOS as...
  20. How to install Bionic on Hades Canyon (nuc8i7hvk/nuc8i7hnb) with Vega M GPU support

Here's how I installed Ubuntu 18.04 on Hades Canyon, either on the
the nuc8i7hvk (with cpu i7-8809G) and the nuc8i7hnb (with cpu i7-8705G),
and enabled the spiffy Vega M graphics support. Thanks...
  21. [server] Re: Hades Canyon NUC install Ubuntu Without Secure Boot

I just ran into this, too. I'm installing on the slower variant of Hades Canyon, NUC8i7HNB,
and it just wouldn't do anything after the grub prompt unless I enabled secure boot.
  22. Re: How to avoid running windows on first boot of new Dell PC?

    That's good advice.

But I'm going to keep living dangerously, and overwriting the m.2 disk that came with the systems for now. I do have one dual boot system, so I have the bits if I need...
  23. How to avoid running windows on first boot of new Dell PC?

    Hi!
I'm installing Ubuntu on a bunch of new Dell 8930 PCs.
They appear to ship suspended, so when you power them on, they resume to Windows Setup
rather than do a POST. That means they ignore...
  24. [ubuntu] Re: triple 4k screen setup acting squirrly; how to reset display settings?

Filed https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1776260 for part of this.
  25. [ubuntu] triple 4k screen setup acting squirrly; how to reset display settings?

Hi all! I'm experimenting with a Skull Canyon running a fresh minimal Ubuntu 18.04.
It works great when plugged into one 4k monitor (via any of the three
ports: hdmi, mini-dp, or type c; all three...
