    Re: Good British Comedies?

I had a 'Not the nine o'clock news' book a few years ago, boy it was hilarious.

On the cover, it had a picture of a Middle-Eastern looking guy, with the words "Is the shah really dead? see page...

Re: Dropped My Phone in Toilet Last Night

One could also argue that the UV rays in sunlight will possibly kill any germs on the phone. But i have heard of good results doing the rice-trick.

If it was your toilet you dropped it into,...

    Re: Ornery October Screenshots

Well, after a complete hard-drive format and reinstall due to Compiz issues (it suddenly stopped being able to find something called UnityShell) along with other various annoyances, this is my new...

    Re: Good British Comedies?

They're showing 'Mrs Browns Boys' on TV here in New Zealand at the moment, and i'm really enjoying it. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and is very funny.

Blackadder is also a classic. He was...

Re: Poor Man (or Gal) Computer Fixes

Yeah, i think it is a Compaq.

This thing was running hot, and steadily slowing down during the course of the day. I suspect it was heating up over a number of hours. It's working a lot better now.

Re: Poor Man (or Gal) Computer Fixes

Okay, attached is the photo (with snazzy red arrow pointing to the cable-tie :) ).

I've basically just created a loop with a small cable-tie, "clipped" the bracket for the fan/heatsink onto this...

Re: Question on an old HP laptop

I'm the same these days; set something up how i like it, and then don't mess with it. That whole "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude :)

Re: Poor Man (or Gal) Computer Fixes

Yeah should be able to do that; i'm seeing my friend over the next couple of days to do a defrag on her machine, so i'll take a photo and post it up over the next day or so.

Re: Poor Man (or Gal) Computer Fixes

A friend's computer was running really badly, with a CPU fan that constantly ran at full speed. I took a look at it, and noticed that the whole fan/heatsink module was totally loose due to one of the...

Re: Question on an old HP laptop

I had a friend give me an old Toshiba Satellite from around 2005. 512mb RAM, 1.8GHz processor, 60GB HDD. I'd say 1GB ram with the processor your HP has will be fine, particularly with something as...

    Re: Serendipitous September Screenshots

I'm running the same Unity icons as Goldshirt; Malys Blue i believe, FYI :) They're nice!

Otherwise, pretty basic Ubuntu 12.04 with a couple of Screenlets. Cairo Dock with Brit theme.

[ubuntu] Re: Cube with Compiz has issues on Ubuntu 12.04

Thanks Stinkeye; that's sorted it out.

There were no compiz packages that had a (!) next to them in Synaptic, so i just selected all of them and locked them. Do you see any issues with doing that?

Re: Do "trolly" titles works better?

I don't want this to come across as trolling, or attacking anyone - i'm really just asking a question, as i'm genuinely keen what goes through a persons mind when this sort of issue arises.

Re: The Seen and the Unseen.

    Re: coffee before an exam

Water, Tea, Green Tea - all better alternatives if you're not used to coffee. A 'B' vitamin supplement might also help.

I'd suggest Malys-Blue - the blue of the icon design would go really nicely with the grey.
