Re: Is this a bug I should report?

    Not a bug.
  2. Re: Can't boot from a new Ubuntu 20.04 USB drive

    It's possible indeed.

Some tools like Rufus, depending on the settings, either do a BIOS bootable or a UEFI bootable, not both.

Re: looking for free email service

Yes, that's a given even with vanilla Android running the most basic Google services, no need for additional apps.

[Zorin] Re: Can't Copy Files From Live DVD

Yes, something can be done, but I just realized you're the same person from this thread and I don't have the slightest desire of engaging in another round.
So, I'll leave you with the experts.

    As...

[Zorin] Re: Can't Copy Files From Live DVD

But you are not that user when running a live session and that's the problem.
I'm not sure you actually understand permissions.

[ubuntu] Re: Another video streaming issue

An i5-3320M CPU is an 8 years old CPU and coupled with an even older integrated graphics.
It's also a 2 cores / 4 threads CPU which means that top and similar considers the maximum CPU usage as...
  7. Re: Not detecting windows 7 in a triple booting process

    Yeah... NO.
You NEVER assign more than half the host's RAM, ever. It's surprising that it only became "very slow", it should have froze right then and there.
And assigning all the available cores...
  8. Re: Not detecting windows 7 in a triple booting process

You definitely should have backups BEFORE attempting such potentially destructive process as an OS installation, no matter which.
And yes, you should have Windows installation media of the same...
  9. Re: Not detecting windows 7 in a triple booting process

Actually this is simpler than tea for one is putting it.
What you need to understand in a multi-boot system with different Windows versions is that one of those Windows is in charge of booting...
  10. [kubuntu] Re: Program starts then closes after 1 second

This ^^^ and it can also point out other errors.
The point is nobody can troubleshoot such a problem without checking what's happening.

So I suspect you have a pretty messed up system....

That year will never come because the years of the desktop are already gone.

Re: looking for free email service

    Yes, of course.

And knowing this is about an Android device, does he not intend to install apps from the Play store? It needs a Google account (=> a gmail address) to do that.

    Re: Installing 20.04

    Indeed.
Currently Ubuntu uses swapfile instead of a separated swap partition and the optimal size is set automatically.

    Re: (Browser: Brave) backup

No, you need to install the rdiff-backup package in order to use the script.

[ubuntu] Re: Another video streaming issue

For sure I won't be paying a subscription just to test it but I very much doubt Eurosport is streaming in Flash. Flash is a dead technology, even more so than two years ago. Actually we're a couple...

    Re: Installing 20.04

Root is absurdly low. Give it at least 25-30GB.
A separated swap partition is no longer needed.

That said, the above likely has no effect on your issue. Your issue is the graphical interface not...
  18. Re: Trouble upgrading from 18.04 to 20.04

Again, open Software & Updates > Other software and remove or deselect them there. This should be enough.
The command to remove PPAs is the some as to add them but with --remove argument.

[ubuntu] Re: Another video streaming issue

Why do you think that's an "issue"?
And for the record you're using Chromium.
  20. Re: Trouble upgrading from 18.04 to 20.04

You have lots of PPAs. Try disabling them all first.
  21. Re: Ethernet connection says "cable unplugged", new installation of Ubuntu 20.04?

Secure Boot disabled does nothing to any driver. OTOH, Secure Boot enabled prevents loading unsigned drivers like the ones for your graphics card.
There's no situation/scenario where hardware not...
  22. Re: Mount other drives in writing mode

I would run the error correction tool in Windows to be sure.
I would also make sure Fast Startup is actually disabled. Major Windows updates (feature updates) tend to re-enable it.
  23. [ubuntu] Re: pc boots to proprietary software desktop

I have a feeling this is spot on.
The brand or form factor are red herrings. The Giada miniPCs work pretty much like any other desktop PC. That said, this specific form factor with very low energy...
  24. Re: Mount other drives in writing mode

Are the same partitions writable in Windows?
  25. Re: Ubuntu server 20.04 installation failed: non system disk error

Secure Boot settings should be at Security.
If Legacy is selected it's very likely that setting won't show up because not applicable.
