  1. [ubuntu] Re: LAMP for Wordpress safe on home computer?

I went with the no-VM option. Installing everything was easy with tasksel but making all the permissions work right took some searching. I found in the Ubuntu Wiki that I can change ports.conf and...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: LAMP for Wordpress safe on home computer?

Thanks Lars Noodén. I do have ufw enabled. I did some reading and the default is to deny incoming connections so then ports 80 and 443 would be covered. That is what I assume.

    I do not need to...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: LAMP for Wordpress safe on home computer?

Thanks for all the replies! The Wordpress installation walkthroughs I found all set it up with localhost. I can't block all incoming connections to 80 and 443 because then I'd block all web browsing...
  4. [ubuntu] LAMP for Wordpress safe on home computer?

I would like to learn Wordpress for building websites. LAMP installs Apache, Mysql and php servers. Is this safe to use from a home computer? I won't be hosting websites at home, only building them.

Well, I just went with aes-xts-plain since it's the newest version of aes. Can't go wrong with that I guess.

  9. [ubuntu] Thunderbird 17.0.4 corrupted html mail. Anyone else?

[all variants] Re: Block ICMP through iptables or ufw?

I'm not doing anything particular where I would need reject over drop. I only say that because I found two links on the forum here which explain why reject would be the better choice. ICMP drop still...

    [all variants] DHCP ports closed

I didn't know I was blocking ports 67-68 out with ufw. These are the ports for dhcp but I had no connection problems with internet. If I open them up, what will this do? I don't need new ip addresses...

    [ubuntu] Re: cat /proc/sys/kernel/dmesg_restrict

I noticed that someone above said it works in sysctl, so I can add kernel.dmesg_restrict = 1 to sysctl.conf.

Would that be better than putting the tee command in rc.local?
