Hi psignosis,
Were you able to get the headphones to work from the headphones jack on the back of the iMac itself?
Unfortunately the monitor I have is over 6 years old and only has VGA and DVI,...
pavucontrol says that the volume is fine and routing to the headphones. When I "play" audio, there's a bar in pavucontrol that lights up which matches the sound levels in the audio but no actual...
Hello everyone,
I can't seem to get sound to come out of the headphone jack on my iMac. What can I do?
There have been previous threads about sound not working in iMacs since 2009 that suggested...
Has anyone got this working on an iMac 14,1?
When I try to run hda-analyzer, it fails to load with an error: "ValueError: wrong proc file format (unknown dig1 bit 'KAE')"
Then I tried adding...
I had this problem and I fixed it by typing in the following:
sudo chown -vR myusername ~/.config
Apparently it's a permissions issue with the .config directory. You could also try granting...
Okay I tried that link and now it fails near the end of the installation (the installation bar is two-thirds full) at:
"Exécution de "update-grub"" (Running update-grub)
I run ps -A and it...
If you're willing to wait until 12.10 comes out, then you can do that. We need someone (anyone!) to compile a .deb package for a version of grub2 that has been fixed. Then we should be able to use...
I wonder why not all Macs are affected (otherwise this forum would be full of threads about this issue). Maybe it only affects triple booters.
If someone can recompile the updated source code and...
I had OS X 10.7, Windows 7, and Ubuntu 10.04 on my computer. I tried to upgrade Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04 but the upgrade failed because of this bug in grub:

I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 installed already. I have stuff in my NTFS partition so I can't just wipe out everything and make a FAT32 partition.
It looks like the bug has been recorded:...
Update:
As I suspected, the error is due to the partition setup. I still can't get Ubuntu 12.04 to work. It probably has to do with having both GPT and MBR, or due to something not jiving well...
Hi everyone,
I am trying to install 12.04 on my MacBook4,1, which currently has Mac OS X 10.7, Windows 7, and Ubuntu 10.04 on it. I'm using the 64-bit DVD ISO. The Install window is hanging after...
Thanks, that worked! Does anyone know if this problem persists in Ubuntu 11.04?
Thanks, this worked. Somehow I lost the ability to play DVDs after installing 10.10 but this line fixed it.
I have the same problem. Mac OS X boots up directly from rEFIt but both the Linux and Windows options go to the same GRUB menu. I don't mind Linux going into GRUB, but rEFIt should be able to boot...
What did you do? I'm confused.
Did you create the file hid_apple.conf or did you delete it?
HanDuo,
When I type "sudo dmesg", I get a lot of lines of stuff.
If I do "sudo dmesg | grep Keyboard" I get:

It's easier to fix my computer with Ubuntu than either Windows or OS X. When Windows corrupted my partition table, I used "testdisk" and "gparted" to fix it. When I upgraded my hard disk, I used "dd"...
Doesn't work / doesn't apply.
The keyboard works during the Ubuntu login screen (which is on the X server). It's when it logs into GNOME when my keyboard stops working.'
Help, anyone?
bump. Same problem with 10.04. I'm wondering if it's due to xorg being confused because it is trying to save settings for two keyboards, one the laptop keyboard, and the other the sometimes-present...
*bump*
I don't understand why people recommend Google Maps and Mapquest. I'm one of those people who doesn't have a data plan on my cell phone, so if I'm in a car, I won't be able to complete a...
Hi everyone,
I recently bought a 500 GB hard disk to replace my 120 GB one. I have an external hard drive so I did:

in order to make an image...
I can access my Mac partition from Linux, but my Linux partitions are currently in ext4 so I can't get to them from Mac OS. If there's a file system I can install Ubuntu on that Mac OS can access,...
bump.
I installed all the latest updates. Anyone else have this problem?
Once again, this is a Macbook 4,1 with an Intel Core 2 Duo (Penryn-class?) 2.1 GHz processor and 2.5 GB of 667 MHz DR2...
Hi everyone,
I'm using a fourth-generation Intel Macbook and I can't seem to get the built-in keyboard to work in Ubuntu 9.10. Curiously, if I attach an external keyboard, it does work.
Also,...
