If /etc/default/grub looks like this, the grub menu will not appear:
GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden
GRUB_TIMEOUT=4
This might solve your issue if you use Intel hardware, it will probably not increase boot time.
