Awesome man have a similar issue. CPU usage on my first core was consistently up above 90%. For me disabling gpe16 did the trick.
In Unity I just had to come down in resolution. Ubuntu really isn't ready for these retina displays, either is windows....
1920 x 1200 (16:10) works well for me. It's not as crisp but certainly...

Try to select "enable networking" before going to the root shell. That should mount everything with read and write access....

Heys guys I installed 13.10 on a 10,1 macbook pro the other day and fouled up my windows 7 bootcamp partition. In refind when I boot windows I get a "operating system not found" error or something...
