  1. [all variants] Re: VirtualBox kernel module breaks after each kernel update

Thanks, but the problem is that my non-technical friends don't have root on their boxes... so I need to figure out something automated.
  2. [all variants] VirtualBox kernel module breaks after each kernel update

I'm running Virtualbox from the Sun website (need the USB support) and it breaks after each kernel update.

The problem is that I installed a lot of Ubuntu systems for transitioning windows users...

    Re: Zarafa server and Evolution

It won't work. Evolution is working on MAPI/RPC support, which is MS proprietary wire protocol.

Zarafa serves MAPI over SOAP, which requires a seperate library. If the evolution backend had...

I'm looking for a guide to help new users find their way on the Ubuntu desktop. Preferably in Dutch.

[ubuntu] Apache LDAP auth not working

I'm trying to get Apache to do LDAP authentication on my Hardy server.
LDAP is in use and working for anything from logins to Zarafa and Drupal.

But, with my configuration, it fails for Apache...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Server virtualisation without hardware support

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm avoiding VMWare because it's not Free Software. If I would be willing to invest money, I'd upgrade the machine to one that supports hardware virtualistaion and...
  8. [ubuntu] Server virtualisation without hardware support

I need to run some sort of virtualisation on my home server to be able to run Zimbra (it conflicts with the locally installed ldap and webserver).

My box does not support hardware virtualisation...
  9. Poll: Re: Open Letter Ubuntu Community: Hardy Heron...Dead Release?

I'm running Hardy on both my work machines, my home machines and my server. Not a single freeze so far.

My only gripe with it is the lack of support for Xen, but that is documented.

    I'm sure...

[other] Re: Ubuntu 8.04 Server + Xen = disaster

I'm worried about Xen a bit too, but it's GPL'ed so Citrix couldn't close it if they wanted too. It's still the best option we have (besides hardware virtualisation like KVM) at a community based...

[other] Re: Ubuntu 8.04 Server + Xen = disaster

VirtualBox is nice, but it's a desktop virtualisation project (like vmware workstation). It's not suitable for server use AFAIK.

I'm a bit disappointed that the Xen way turned out like this. ...

[other] Re: Ubuntu 8.04 Server + Xen = disaster

    Thanks.
I'm a purist at home. If a client wants VMWare, I'm okay with that. If I have to use closed software (as in no open alternative), I will.

But Xen works at least as well as VMWare and...

[other] Re: Ubuntu 8.04 Server + Xen = disaster

VmWare server is free as in beer. It's not Free Software (like Linux) nor is the source code available.
Xen, in contrast, is a Free Software project.

    dd-wrt violating the GPL

I read discussions about DD-WRT violating the GPL with their commercial x86 versions.

  23. Re: MPAA violating Ubuntu trademark, possible copyright infrigement

We owe much to Mark and Canonical. So I'm going to assume that they are still the good guys and that there is no such deal with the MPAA until someone has a clear indication that there is.

    Please...
  24. Re: MPAA violating Ubuntu trademark, possible copyright infrigement

Quite right, that does weaken any potential case. Maybe there's a loophole for this too. Each copyright holder can take action, that means that if they include for example a GPL'd program I wrote,...
  25. Re: MPAA violating Ubuntu trademark, possible copyright infrigement

I think you are wrong here, it seems to violate the GPL by not including full sources. If so, the GPLv2 is quite clear: failure to comply effectively and immediately terminates the license, hence...
