[ubuntu] Re: How to pass xorg options in Ubuntu Lucid?

I bought that exact same mouse today, and so I'm having the same problems. I also looked at several threads (the one that you listed was the most promising of those I found), but nothing has worked....

[ubuntu] Re: Chinese Handwriting Input System with table

i found a possible solution, although it isn't very pretty. set up your tablet to be used as a normal tablet, then install cell writer. after that, start up cell writer and go to setup, and add "CJK...

[ubuntu] Re: Chinese Handwriting Input System with table

That would need some special software, and probably the software is only for Windows. I think it will not work without it. I use my tablet and http://www.chinese-tools.com/tools/mouse.html to look up...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: vlc crashes in jaunty with segmentation fault when changing songs on playlists.

This is a slightly old thread, but I thought I should point out that this issue can probably be resolved by deleting your config files for vlc. They are located in ~/.config/vlc. Just delete that vlc...
  8. Re: Please Input on (low budget gaming upgrade to cpu)

I would also go with NVidia 9800GTX. That's what I put in my system and it's great. I can play a ton of games (like Oblivion) in Wine at max settings. :)

[ubuntu] Re: How to make mplayer the default music player

You didn't have to remove anything, just right click the file and choose properties, then in the open with section select the program you want opened by default. However, you would need to do this...

    [ubuntu] Re: what are 'lncurses'?

Yea, there is no reason to go through all the ./configure && make business for such a common library. Just install it with apt.

Re: Adding a command to menu using terminal

There are a few good ones out there. I learned it from the Debian documentation, and I felt it was well written and easy to follow.

I recently saw a sticky in the programming section of the forums...

Re: Adding a command to menu using terminal

.desktop files are probably the best way. You can easily set the category, icon, etc.

I also suggest using .deb instead. .deb files are actually very easy to make, and once you learn how it's not...

    [ubuntu] Re: Hex Editor (special)

One of my favourite things about Linux is that you get all those great command-line utilities right out of the box.

Your idea sounds really interesting, and I think I might take some time out to...

    [ubuntu] Re: Hex Editor (special)

I believe a floppy image would be exactly the same as using a real floppy. When you go into VirtualBox settings, just have it load the floppy image instead of from your drive.

    [ubuntu] Re: Hex Editor (special)

Have you tried using dd? You might be able to access it that way by writing/reading directly at /dev/fd0 (or whatever the device is called on your system).

If that works, you can extract an image...

    Re: RuneScape Lags In Ubuntu

Yea, you're probably running openjdk. Try switching to sun-java6 and see if it helps. Just use the command I listed before:
    sudo update-java-alternatives -s java-6-sun

[ubuntu] Re: Menu launch command for python program

You could try putting a little bash script in /usr/local/bin with those cd and python commands in it. And then just have your shortcut use that script as the command instead. Make sure the script has...

    [ubuntu] Re: what are 'lncurses'?

Yea, -l is a flag for libraries. So it's just saying that it can't find the library ncurses. You'll need to install it.

    [ubuntu] Re: Hex Editor (special)

You could make a floppy image from the disk and edit that, and then just write the image over the floppy later.

    Re: Mupen64Plus 1.5 installation issues

I created a .deb file for it a while back, I can send that to you somehow if you like, although it is for 32-bit ONLY. Eventually I'll get around to creating a 64-bit .deb, because I run 64-bit now...
  22. [ubuntu] Re: Unable To Install Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS Desktop Ed. On My Computer. Need Your Help!

It _sounds_ like a hard disk problem to be, although I'm not 100% sure. When I had problems with an HD before I got that same kind of error. If you have a SATA HD, try setting it to AHCI mode, and if...

    Re: RuneScape Lags In Ubuntu

Which Java are you using? I use sun-java6-plugin and the game runs great for me (in high-res mode). Maybe you should switch your Java version? You should be able to find out which Java you're running...
