    After reinstalling with XFS (instead of ext4) "df" now reports 699 GB. That's about 10 GB extra. But I still need 50 GB.

    I just tried activating the nvidia-driver (and "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart") with Karmic Koala live-cd. Guest what I get hardware acceleration and max resolution (1680x1050).
