  1. Problem installing wine1.8 from ubuntu-wine ppa on 14.04

I just installed wine1.8 from the ubuntu-wine ppa on a 14.04 system, following these instructions:
    http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2015/12/install-wine-1-8-stable-new-ppa/

    First time I run...

[ubuntu] Re: Installing Graphics Drivers Help

I would guess that the reason you see all the files from Windows is that Ubuntu has mounted your Windows partition. If I have that right, it's not a copy and you'll be sad if you delete it. If you...

Re: ubuntu 12.10 low disk space

I guess the first thing to do is figure out where the space has gone.

Here's a line I find useful for investigating this kind of question:

    cd /
    du -k | sort -n

This gives you a list of all...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: what is the command to remove a directory ?

That second line "rmdir /dirName" is not necessary (the first line has already removed it) and not correct (the directory is not necessarily in /).

[SOLVED] Re: How can I run csh in terminal?

The Linux kernel is indeed written in C, but csh is not, in spite of its name, scripted in C. So you won't learn anything about C programming writing csh scripts.

[SOLVED] Re: How can I run csh in terminal?

Two things I'd add to the above:

    1. Both bash and csh distinguish "login shells" from plain shells -- without getting into too many boring details, if you want to see the "login shell" version of...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 Wireless internet problems

I googled "xmas port scan" and from the stuff I read, I gather that 1) you are using a D-Link router, 2) the message is meaningless, and therefore 3) it has nothing to do with your problem.

    Maybe...

I believe this works in either csh or bash:

    expr `/home/usr/.config/queue.22876 | grep -c /pool1/` / 3

And I don't see any need to escape the /.

[kubuntu] Re: Problem copying data to a USB drive

What you say about the USB drive makes me suspect that the drive has a hardware problem. During the copy you might try "tail /var/log/syslog" and see if you're logging any complaints about the drive....

  18. [ubuntu] Re: Conky error: can't open '/sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp':

My best guess is that your hardware has no temperature sensor -- or at least none recognized by any driver you have installed.

I would run "sudo sensors-detect". If you don't have sensors-detect,...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: Conky error: can't open '/sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp':

    A few questions.
    1. Do you have /sys?
    2. Do you have /sys/class/thermal?
    3. What is in your /sys/class/thermal?
  20. [ubuntu] Re: What are the best softwares to show the temperatures of my hardware?

Yeah, 100 C sounds way too hot, but it also sounds like a suspiciously round number, like something is just not working. I would try looking in /proc/acpi/thermal_zone. There should be one or more...

  23. [ubuntu] Re: What are the best softwares to show the temperatures of my hardware?

That's odd. How different? I mean, are we talking a degree different, or something substantial? And what pieces of software were giving you these different numbers?
