I have no idea what happened, but now it is behaving normally. I rebooted twice yesterday, just to see if anything shook loose, but no luck. I guess the third time was the charm. Working fine now.

I'm on Xubuntu 18.04. I was writing to my 6TB NTFS drive to my heart's content until some update yesterday (at least I'm assuming that is related... that's the only change as far as I can tell.) All...
"Software" is difficult to find, and is only categorized under "All", rather than under "System" or "Settings", as the other related programs are. I'm pretty sure this wasn't the case in either 16.04...
Happy Super Bowl Sunday to all. I've never had any issue opening JPEG2000 images with Gimp before this most recent install. I vaguely remember having to install libjasper and/or libopenjpeg manually...
What's not an Ubuntu package? Ubuntu doesn't distribute ffmpeg packages any longer, so of course I got those from PPAs.

I'm on 14.04, fully updated everywhere. Audacity used to be able to extract audio from pretty much any file with an audio track. Now I'm limited to wavs, mp3s and other straight audio files.
According to this thread, which has been closed, the issue has been fixed on audacity 2.0.5-1ubuntu3.2. That is the version I have installed currently, and there has been zero difference. I still...
Anything and everything remotely connected to avconv or ffmpeg (including this and Audacity, among others) has become a nightmare under "Trusty". Tell me this: can I spare myself a lot of heartache...
Not working. Tried importing an MOV, which never gave any problem in the past. "Does not recognize this type of file."
Also, did I just mess up my fully up-to-date install of ffmpeg which I use...
Compiled from source, but no luck. Still getting the same error: "Audacity cannot open this type of file", a file which I can open just fine with Audacity on my Windows box, as well as on my other...
Bump
Regarding both ffmpeg and audacity, I'm curious... Is this an issue only within Ubuntu, or will I find the same situation using Fedora, Mint, etc.?
Question: Now that I have compiled ffmpeg by hand and have it up and running, do I need to repeat the process with every new version, or can I now add one of the PPA repositories and update that way?
Solved (I think). Compiled from source using this guide, and all seems to be running well. Make sure to reboot after compiling.
Would anyone know why I can't install ffmpeg? I've tried both with and without specialized PPAs added to my repo list. Also tried the Saucy repos, but no luck. I just get an error regarding unmet...
This is not good... going to affect my business dramatically. Uggh. I think I have no choice but to downgrade to Saucy again. I had no idea... :(
I see it. Thank you. Couldn't find it all the way down there. Also, it's not "categories" that have been replaced, just category, singular... I think that's the only one. There's no "Games", no...
I added the gnome3-team saucy repos, to no avail. same version as installed, not 3.10. But thanks for the idea.
There are no folders. That's the point to this thread, or at least part of it....
I'm discovering that the GNOME environment under 13.10 is no longer categorizing apps - which is odd - but what's worse is that it's not even displaying all of the apps when I select "All". Is there...
Nothing. Not even BIOs or boot screen. I suspect a fresh install is in my future, which I'll just have to live with. Maybe I can save some files using the LiveCD, we'll see.
But not even getting...
Bump.
I believe gnome-screenshot is the culprit. It appears in synaptic, but gives no name and no details in Software Updater.
The default is Spanish, for some reason. How do I change this to American English? Mind you, this is not Outlook's spell check, which is already set to American English, but disabled. This is (I...
It appears that it is trying to go to some Facebook page, but the page never loads. How do I stop this from happening?
