This is an odd problem I encountered today.
My wife would like to wipe her computer and "start over." She's had XP on it for years, but to my delight she asked if I could try Ubuntu and see if it...
You made the right choice. New software can take a long time to mature completely, and with a nice LTS like Lucid, there's no need to ship with the young and restless Unity.
Perhaps a change of attitude is better than searching for a simple GUI tool. You can't dink around with hackers when you're running a server.
From Wikipedia:
As far as I know Unity ships with the Netbook Edition, so if you have a desktop it probably isn't a good interface to use. System76 has refused to ship netbooks with Unity due to bugginess.
That...
You can probably find the Maverick wallpapers on the web, but I'm not sure how to go about getting the modified themes. Maybe someone on Gnome-look.org is working on it.
At this point the software world is flying so far away from traditional copyright that the idea of sharing and selling music may become moot. It essentially already happens.
Are lucid and lucid-updates software sources I can add?
Good news. I hope that Ubuntu continues to get the exposure that it deserves.
I have chosen to skip Maverick and continue running 10.04 LTS.
Even though I enjoy the stability that LTS brings, I enabled lucid-backports and lucid-proposed so that I don't inadvertently fall...
My machine has a 9600M NVIDIA card. In order to enable desktop effects (and watch full-screen internet videos, evidently) I need to enable the proprietary driver. I'm not into the whole FOSS purist...
Perfect replacement for Lucid's default.
There are a few variations over at deviant.
I'm using an Nvidia Geforce 6x card (can't remember the exact number). When I do not have the proprietary driver enabled, the Ubuntu logo and status bar, as well as various boot up messages, look...
Have had this problem since first install of Lucid on this ASUS x83v laptop. It is no big deal except for the fact that it increases boot time and looks quirky.

I alternate between IDLE and gedit/terminal with Python. The only IDE I'm happy with is Code::Blocks, which isn't for Python in the least.
I gave Emacs a go because it seemed like everyone was...
OOP, if done correctly, results in less lines of code, modularity, and reusability. I like procedural programming because it's much simpler, but larger programs can become unwieldy.
I will say...

It's near the bottom.
I'll try to keep this short.
When I became curious about open source licenses, I set out to read them myself before making any conclusions.
The Gnu GPL (v2 and v3) and the LGPL were so long and...
A readily available Ubuntu quick-start guide upon a fresh installation. New users are often confused by the lack of popular codecs, flashplayer, etc. As it stands Ubuntu need some slight tweaking...
Here's mine, nothing too special. Just Docky and one Gnome panel.

I think Python can do everything that Perl can do, and vice versa, so it's really a matter of what you want to program and how you as a programmer think.
I love Python. And C, C++, Java, Lua, and Perl.
Rather than trying to lift one language up over another, why not explore other languages and admire their strong points? Every language has at...
The new logo does have its good points for sure, and it certainly does look more slick and professional. The old logo was a little cartoonish.
But by removing the colors and downplaying the...
I'd like to hear some thoughts on Canonical's rebranding of the Ubuntu logo.
I understand that a lot of people complained about Karmic's (among others) "poop brown" color scheme. However, I...
Alright, it worked! Thank you! :)
