I wrote something wrong in the .gtkrc-2.0 file. This should do the trick: (It did for me.) ;)
style "panel-icon-fix" {
xthickness = 0
ythickness = 0
}
widget "*Xfce*Panel*" style...
Hmm, I also can't seem to get anything in the gtkrc-2.0 file to work. It would be easier if I could take a look directly at the theme you're using instead.
If you've installed a 3rd party theme you...
It's a flaw in XFCE design. It resizes icons based on the horizontal xthickness value. You need to edit the theme you are using, or add this in ~/.gtkrc-2.0:
style "panel-icon-fix" {

Made a blue theme because I don't like orange. :p

But the colors and fonts when browsing in Windows still needs to be fixed. :p
I'm not happy. Too much vertical scrolling. :P
My previous userstyle stopped working, so it's time to write a new one. Already partially fixed the avatars (usermenu) above the post so it's aligned...
See answer above. But you can fake it a bit. Create 2 xfce panels and position them bottom-left and bottom-right. Make the panels 100% transparent. Add the main xfce menu in the bottom-left panel and...

The default effects in mutter just look wrong if you run it stand-alone or as the WM in xfce or any other DE that isn't Gnome Shell. In Gnome Shell the effects behave normal. It feels like I'm...

Also include any icon theme you would like to use there. (Like ubuntu-mono for example.)
Then:

Hosts-blocking those 3rd party adservers should solve the problem. :P

sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:repository-name/subdirectory
Should fix it.
shade is what it sounds like. The shade of the color value @bg_color (that's defined in the gtk.css file.) The lower the value the darker the color gets and vice versa.
alpha is the transparency...
sudo apt-get --no-install-recommends install gnome-shell
That will install everything that's required to run gnome-shell. (Except graphic drivers.) It will not install a login manager, any themes...
Actually kwin decorator Aurorae supports transparency. I believe that theme is this one.
If you want a minimal Gnome classic desktop, install with the following command:

I'm not so sure about the colors of this one. (I don't like purple or orange.) I'm probably going to make it "scream" less. And it only works as intended in Opera at the moment since I haven't...
I suppose the bug should be reported to those who create the applets. (Especially the indicator-applet.)
