Non-Free software still in Main or Universe. (Even with active bugs filed.)
If that were not the case, there'd be very few reasons to have gNewSense around, and I could keep up with Ubuntu's...
I've had the FLOSS radeon driver work for an R300 card but I lost DRI/DRM recently.

I have this as well; turns out that glxinfo told me I fell back to Mesa software rendering!
run glxinfo in a terminal and if it tells you you're using mesa (post log here) then we may have a bug....
I've had decent result with the FLOSS driver as well until a recent update pushed me back to Mesa. :(
I'm going to try 9.04 beta and see if that's any better.

The best defense from this, as unpopular as it may be, is to uninstall flashplugin-nonfree and use gnash-mozilla-plugin instead.
