Inkscape should see the fonts once they're installed. (You might have to restart the app; unless it's got some font refresh function like Gimp does.)
How do fonts go 'out of date'? Do you mean that they stopped being shipped after Karmic?

Thanks! I read about the reservation before but I didn't think that this is what it looks like. I guess I'll have to shrink my Windows partition. :popcorn:
