  1. [ubuntu] Re: Dual boot, Win7 and 12.04 LTS, can't install Windows 7 SP1

Evidently there is some updates that are related to the msftres partition, and it may be that setting that flag is necessary for Win7 to "see" that partition in order to update. Of course I had good...

    Dualboot x64 - Install Windows 7 SP1

I had a hard time searching threads and trying different things to get Windows 7 SP1 (error code 0x800f0900, 0x800F0A12) installed on a dualboot machine with both OS on the SAME HDD and a separate...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Need Dual Boot Win7 / 12.10 SSD advice - cant install win7 SP1 now

I have also a fix that might be working, posted in thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=12487329#post12487329

    More thorough instructions here.
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Dual boot, Win7 and 12.04 LTS, can't install Windows 7 SP1

Dualboot Win7+Ubuntu 12.04 on same HD, separate EFI partition.

Just had the same kind of errors, booted into Ubuntu, set boot flag on EFI partition with GParted, boot into windows and retried,...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: MBR no longer functional after BIOS changes?

I too have tried to dual-boot (Win8+12.04) this particular model in UEFI. Unfortunately the process never takes due to the video never being relayed correctly to the ubuntu system after initial boot...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: NVIDIA graphics not installing, running @ 800x600!

I do not use any VM's so I am not sure what could be going on there.

I would still create some modelines for resolutions, and add them to the Monitor section, so that they may be picked up by the...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: NVIDIA graphics not installing, running @ 800x600!

It is an autoinstaller for the OpenGL libraries, part of the Nvidia website driver, and should not hurt to run if it is asking at boot time as it will complete the driver install.

    I would look...

  10. [ubuntu] Re: NVIDIA graphics not installing, running @ 800x600!

First, what is the model of the monitor? Second, What does your current xorg.conf file have?

I have them running without the swat ppa just the ones found in ubuntu's repos (no nouveau drivers).
  11. [ubuntu] Re: NVIDIA graphics not installing, running @ 800x600!

The "required settings" would be the correct Horizontal Sync and Vertical Refresh Range for your particular monitor. Googling or searching the forums here will help with the creation of the xorg.conf...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: NVIDIA graphics not installing, running @ 800x600!

You will need to create the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file (or re-create one if it exists) with the required settings for your particular monitor. I have a generic one that may help with creating one here,...

    [ubuntu] Re: Force screen resolution?

After looking through the pastebin, it seems that the dde info is not being reported correctly to the drivers, so I would think that an xorg.conf with the correct settings should suffice to get the...

    [ubuntu] Re: Force screen resolution?

Usually if there is a "tweak" needed for the monitor setup. then an upgrade will break that config and you will have to "tweak" again. I would suggest making a backup of the config (xorg.conf) once...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: NVIDIA graphics not installing, running @ 800x600!

Nvidia's drivers always try to run in a "meta" mode (predetermined) so usually you have to specify the correct monitor settings with an xorg.conf file explicitly stating the HorizSync and VertRefresh...

    [SOLVED] Re: Headless Server Problem

I have a few myself that are a little funny about having "no" K/M/M at all connected when booting, and "must" at least be hooked to a KVM to boot, then operate correctly, also with all errors and...

    [SOLVED] Re: Headless Server Problem

Probably the monitor doing the usual "no active signal change, so I will go into sleep mode" since there is no activity registered via a keyboard/mouse. I wouldn't think it is anything other than...
  19. [SOLVED] Re: how to create a custom resolution with Nvidia driver like windows?

Good stuff! Research goes a long way!

Probably due to Nvidia using a "virtual" desktop via the driver, it is supposed to take the actual settings and then be able to resize it virtually to any...

  22. [SOLVED] Re: how to create a custom resolution with Nvidia driver like windows?

  23. [SOLVED] Re: how to create a custom resolution with Nvidia driver like windows?

Using the Nvidia drivers I have come to find that a custom xorg.conf will do the trick, as long as one never uses the Nvidia control panel to make a resolution adjustment after that, but uses the...
