  1. [SOLVED] Re: Recommended Updates Require Untrusted Packages

Thanks, the command line didn't put up any warnings.

I too have the computer check for updates daily, so frequency is probably not it. Next time it shows up, I'll probably file a bug report...
  2. [SOLVED] Recommended Updates Require Untrusted Packages

Hi. I have received a few updates for the package management system. Before the installation is to start, a message pops up informing me that a bunch of untrusted packages are required. Why would...
  3. [other] Re: What's that "Mysterious" Python Process Using My Network?

A few MB at most. The maximum I get is around 220KB/s.
  4. [other] Re: What's that "Mysterious" Python Process Using My Network?

Thanks for the reply, jwbrase. It's not running right now, and when it does it lasts for no more than about 10-20 seconds. I'll try this the next time I notice it.
  5. [other] Re: What's that "Mysterious" Python Process Using My Network?

Hi dino; thanks for the reply. The amount being downloaded was too much for sync-time or things of that sort. Anyway, do you know how one can find out with more accuracy (than /usr/bin/python) what's...
  6. [other] What's that "Mysterious" Python Process Using My Network?

Occasionally I notice a lot of data being downloaded without any of my input whatsoever and when I check nethogs, it simply says /usr/bin/python.

Ubuntu updates are not set to download...
  7. Re: Monitor Resolution Issue (Generic, not Ubuntu-specific)

Yup! It's a cable issue. A borrowed DVI cable has put the issue to rest. Both Ubuntu and ******* displayed correctly when I used that.

    Thanks for all the help.
  8. Re: Monitor Resolution Issue (Generic, not Ubuntu-specific)

Thanks, but that didn't help. :( Oh, and things are back to being ugly again. As I suspected, and as realzippy seconded, this is likely a purely monitor-based issue. Unlike most other problems of...
  9. Re: Monitor Resolution Issue (Generic, not Ubuntu-specific)

I haven't tried changing cables, but the existing ones have been unplugged and plugged back in a few times without avail.
  10. Re: Monitor Resolution Issue (Generic, not Ubuntu-specific)

The weirdest thing just happened: For the 105,432nd time I opened Monitor Preferences, the screen went blank for a moment, but when it came back, my monitor was correctly identified, the resolution...
  11. Re: Monitor Resolution Issue (Generic, not Ubuntu-specific)

Okay, maybe I'm confusing co-incidence with causation, but it was almost instantaneous. And I think -- though I could be mistaken -- there was no output, it returned to the shell on the next line.
    ...
  12. Monitor Resolution Issue (Generic, not Ubuntu-specific)

[I thought I would post this here since I didn't want register at some other tech forum for a single post.]

Hi there. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 933 which was running at 1360x768 resolution since...
  13. Re: Python and JavaScript (?) - I find it difficult to make the title more specific

It's not for this forum but another which uses Simple Machines. (But doesn't mean I have access to run scripts form the signature.)

As for your question, I suppose I wouldn't mind it at the bottom...
  14. Python and JavaScript (?) - I find it difficult to make the title more specific

    Hi,
Disclaimer: I'm not a web-developer, so apart from the basics of HTML, XML and JS, I'm pretty much a blank slate on this topic.

Here's what I want to do: get the information on the currently...
  15. Re: PyDev, JEE and CDT missing in Eclipse after Upgrade to Maverick

Thanks for your reply, Paul. Figuring that I didn't do Java all that much, I removed Eclipse and have begun finding my way around Geany and Code Blocks. However, I'll keep your tip in mind if I run...
  16. Re: Python shortcut for variable assignment if not None

    Something like http://docs.python.org/library/stdtypes.html#dict.setdefault?
  17. PyDev, JEE and CDT missing in Eclipse after Upgrade to Maverick

I had installed PyDev, the JEE package and CDT after installing Eclipse from the Lucid repo. Now that I take a look at Eclipse after upgrading to Maverick I don't find any of those perspectives...
  18. [SOLVED] Re: Installing Virtualbox 3.2: Is it Safe to Downgrade Certain Qt packages?

Did you try using aptitude instead of apt-get?
  19. Re: Is it Safe to Give JDownloader access to my Router?

Sounds good. If I'm not mistaken, there is a tab to run external commands. I'll look into that, as well. Thank you.
  20. Re: Is it Safe to Give JDownloader access to my Router?

Thanks. I'll check the settings for external logins.
  21. Is it Safe to Give JDownloader access to my Router?

Hi. If you know about the program JDownloader, you might know that it can be configured to change your IP address, if you use a dynamic one. To achieve this, one must provide the program with the...
  22. [SOLVED] Re: Installing Virtualbox 3.2: Is it Safe to Downgrade Certain Qt packages?

Well, never mind. I searched about the beta packages and I think they were remnants from the time I tried Unity for a short while -- a really short while. Anyway, using aptitude installed Vbox...
  23. [SOLVED] Installing Virtualbox 3.2: Is it Safe to Downgrade Certain Qt packages?

Hi. I want to install the PUEL version of Virtualbox on Lucid. I added their repo, although when I try to install it APT throws some dependency issues up at me.

    navneeth@home:~$ sudo apt-get...

Hi. I have Byobu running with three windows, the first of which is the shell. However, when I launch the terminal, it always opens at the third (non-shell) one. Is there a setting somewhere that I...
