    Re: comprehensive dist-upgrade

Never replace the system version of python. Always use some other python environment manager and be certain to disable that setup when doing system administration work.

    I have a feeling that...

  4. Re: Windows Client sign in password not working on NFS +1 more problem

These forums have 10+ threads about connecting win10 to ubuntu samba. search. There were changes to win10 that broke lookups and changed defaults. The version of ubuntu could matter for the answer....
  5. Re: Is it possible to remove a failed disk from mdadm RAID 5/6 before adding new one?

Running ubuntu off a mdadm array is non-trivial. Having data on RAID-whatever **is** trivial. You'll probably need 1 OS drive and 5 Data disks. An OS can be setup in a mirror, using LVM and 2...

Depending on how much of the disk was written, the data may be easy or very, very, very hard to get.
    Backups are 1000x easier.
  8. Re: Tablet 32GB boot and 512GB SD card make as one?

Yep. That looks like what you wanted.

But it is still a really bad idea. The 32G SSD was perfect for the OS and the other storage would be perfect for all other stuff like /home/ and any extra...

Did you read my post #16?

  15. Re: Tablet 32GB boot and 512GB SD card make as one?

An existing VG can't be created again. You need to add a PV to the existing VG. Perhaps the vgextend command is what you want? Probably should review the vgchange, vgck, and vgconvert commands too....

Re: Flash drive mounting read only

Sorry, I don't know what you are trying to show above. A symbolic link as usb --> usb0 in the same location from 2016 doesn't really seem relevant. I must be missing something.

  22. [SOLVED] Re: Please help with understanding, and changing, swap: LUKS, LVM

I don't think hibernation works with swapfiles and definitely not inside LVM + LUKS encryption.
I use standby with LVM + LUKS encryption, nightly and have for years. It works.
  23. [SOLVED] Re: Please help with understanding, and changing, swap: LUKS, LVM

No. There's no difference, except the swap file has a tiny bit more overhead due to the file system. This assumes you won't hibernate.
