  1. Re: Whu does Ubuntu use so much resources

Unused ram is wasted ram. These days computers have so much ram its stupid. Might as well use it for something. Post results of

I'd post mine for comparison but I'm ripping dvds so...

    Re: Company Linux Requirements

I know nothing about existing businesses. I know that if I was to start an IT of some sort business I would do my best to use Linux all the way around. At the bare minimum all backend and server...
  4. Plant based "Meats". Your opinion?

I would assume they are trying this in other places as well. Here in the states they have a few places doing this. Burger King has the Impossible Whopper, Carls Jr / Hardees has the Beyond burger....

Re: 12 hour times or 24 hour times?

I'm equally comfortable with both. That being said I personally prefer 24h time, makes more sense. However the family doesn't so we don't use it in the home or on any devices we own.
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Problems Backing Up To External Hard Drive

I'd suggest command line duplicity run as root so that it globally backs up all users. This is the script I've been using. Hasn't caused me issue yet.

    if [[ "$USER" == root ]] ; then ...
  7. Re: What App(s) you want as snap apps, currently not available as snap app?

Agreed. Part of the whole Linux draw for me is shared libraries which the current Apt provides nicely. Without that, might as well go back to Windows... desktop anyway. To be fair though, I'm not...
  8. Re: at what age should you buy ... for your kids or grandkids?

I don't think there is a set age. I've seen young ones more grown up than some adults I know. One size does not fit all in this case. That being said I was on a computer from the time I was 7 or 8...
  9. [SOLVED] Re: What to look/check for when moving PHP 5.3/4 from Ubuntu 10.04 to Ubuntu 16.04?

I don't understand why people don't like to update things when php is concerned, but I know that is my own lack of knowledge. That being said might I suggest forgoing Ubuntu altogether and switching...
  10. [kubuntu] Re: "The program 'docker' is currently not installed", even though I just installed i

I think you want docker.io, not just docker. Results of apt search below. I had a similar problem when doing a chroot installation of bionic with netplan / netplan.io

  11. Display distortion on 18.04. Diff patch in code tags included.

Included is a diff made into a patch between Xorg logs on boot. The 1604xorg log everything boots fine every time. The 1804 log is from a recent boot where I have lines running across my screen and...
  12. Can't successfully upgrade system from Xenial. How bad is that?

I'm having tremendous trouble getting 18.04 to work right. I've been trying off and on for the last 10 months, year or so. I've thought I had it solved only to have something else kick me in the ass....
  13. Re: Reasons for a slow KVM machine?

Using defaults in Virt-Manager which is virtio. Hard drive was not LVM, ssd is. Using a single cpu now on a fresh vm with 1gb of ram. Using ssh only. Virt-Manager is just for creation / installing...
  14. Reasons for a slow KVM machine?

I'm trying to work out something involving my 18.04 upgrade. I thought I had succeeded, but alas one problem remains for full upgrade. I normally use LXD containers to test things but LTSP can't seem...

    [ubuntu] Re: 19.04 Bridge Networking

I'll be damned. Idk where I got using gui for a bridge. I could swear I've done it before but the options are not in the 18.04 + interface. My apologies. Netplan config will be the only option then.

  19. Re: What is a good way to have a Linux server with a robust virtual environment?

Going about it backwards I think. Do you even need either? Have to build around your plan, not build looking for a plan. Otherwise you end up with either not enough, or more stuff that you don't...
  20. [SOLVED] Re: Removing a package installed with command line?

I figured apt only knew about stuff it could scan from repos. Didn't think it would without that.
  21. [SOLVED] Re: Removing a package installed with command line?

I unpacked the deb and got the exact name and did dpkg --get-selections | grep python-crypto and the package came up. Was able to remove with apt. And apparently I never installed the other one. So...
  22. [SOLVED] Removing a package installed with command line?

  25. Re: When listening to music do you prefer audio only or do you like music videos ?

Audio only. I figure if it's video I have to stop what I'm doing to watch it. Automatic response I suppose.
