    Re: zfs removed?

I probably won't have time to test ZFS so can't be sure but I noticed someone filed a bug report:

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zfs-linux/+bug/1847927

    It sounds like they had...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Flashback session (gnome-panel) looking exceptionally good.

Oh, and NO on desktop icons. It seems like some things changed in GNOME itself making that not possible, or at least i can't find a path in dconf at all. Also right click on desktop does nothing...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Flashback session (gnome-panel) looking exceptionally good.

Yep, upon closer look the places menu > Computer button is kind of useless:

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1743686

As I said in that bug report I think the most...
  5. Re: Who else is eagerly waiting for 20.04 ?

For me Unity was OK in 12.04 - I used Unity-2D because most of my hardware bogged down too much with the full 3D experience. I also really liked GNOME Flashback (which started out as Gnome Classic)....

For people like me that live alone it makes sense to auto-login. I mean if someone else has physical access to my computers they can walk away with the whole darn things. All 13 of them - presently...
  7. [SOLVED] Re: Touchpad "Edge Scrolling" turns off as soon as System Settings is closed

    I filed a bug report:

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1845898

Just in case anyone else notices this.
  8. Re: Who else is eagerly waiting for 20.04 ?

I haven't had nearly as much time as I'd like to test during dev cycles lately. I find myself constantly getting pulled into one great scheme after another.
  9. Re: Who else is eagerly waiting for 20.04 ?

There are some seldom used things like GNOME Settings that actually disgust me, but when it comes to common day in, day out usage I find it pleasant to use.

But I was also quite impressed with...
  10. Re: Who else is eagerly waiting for 20.04 ?

I hadn't been, well not that much, until testing the 19.10 Beta and I like it so well I may stick with Ubuntu instead of going to Kubuntu. If 20.04 looks and performs as well as 19.10 I may stick...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Flashback session (gnome-panel) looking exceptionally good.

Yes, I just meant the word "estimate" should be taken as exactly that - an estimate! Like if the screensaver has been running and I then "wake it up" the initial estimate will look quite impressive...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Flashback session (gnome-panel) looking exceptionally good.

Battery time remaining/time to charge is working perfectly today. Maybe I just needed a reboot?
  13. [SOLVED] Re: Touchpad "Edge Scrolling" turns off as soon as System Settings is closed

This was easy to solve after a bit of searching. I installed the package 'xserver-xorg-input-synaptics' and now things behave properly. BTW it actually effects the entire appearance of the ...
  14. [SOLVED] Re: Touchpad "Edge Scrolling" turns off as soon as System Settings is closed

The rather default out-of-box settings for any OS I've ever tried is two-finger scrolling which works fine. I just don't like it, preferring edge scrolling which I know works fine in both Xenial and...
  15. [ubuntu] Flashback session (gnome-panel) looking exceptionally good.

I haven't tried it since Bionic and I must say it looks really good. I think the issues with Nautilus have been fixed. The only thing I noticed was that the "Main Menu" applet (once added to the...
  16. [SOLVED] Re: Touchpad "Edge Scrolling" turns off as soon as System Settings is closed

That laptop has nVidia graphics so I switched back to nouveau just to be sure it wasn't a driver issue. BTW both the nouveau and nVidia drivers have minor issues, nouveau being the lesser of two...
  17. [SOLVED] Touchpad "Edge Scrolling" turns off as soon as System Settings is closed

Just testing Eoan on an old Dell Latitude E6400 and notice when I switch Edge Scrolling on it works as I'd expect as long as I leave System Settings open but as soon as I close System Settings the...

    [SOLVED] Re: gnome-tweaks 3.34 crashing

Thanks for reporting. I just noticed the same thing so marked it effecting me too and subscribed.
  19. [lubuntu] Why does QA tracker only list "entire disc" installs for Lubuntu?

Thought I'd ask here because I'm only tinkering with Lubuntu:

    http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/404/builds/199121/testcases

I installed using manual partitioning because I have...

Re: How do you name your computers?

    Lot's of good suggestions here.

At home I typically do name computers either by model (like E6400 for my Dell laptop or DG41TY for my highly abused home-built Intel every day surfer) or by purpose...

How do you name your computers?

I maintain soooooooo many computers I have trouble coming up with host names. Does anyone have a foolproof naming scheme?

The current challenge is naming 5 old Dell Latitude laptops for use in a...
  22. Re: can hardware from 1991 still work on today's Linux kernel

For sure old monitors should work as well as PS2 interface keyboards and mice. I have doubts about old printers but I have an old legal size HP scanner that's got to be 18 years old and it still...
  23. Re: can hardware from 1991 still work on today's Linux kernel

The big issue is browsing the internet. Even with the lightest of browsers I find much less than a 2mhz cpu and 3GB of RAM to be painfully slow. And it's not the browsers themselves that are to...

Re: Why Ubuntu is going down?

You also have to take into consideration that "flavors" may not be included in such results. Especially on Distrowatch each "flavor" is listed individually.

    Something that would be very...

Re: Ubuntu is or is not "Entry Level."

That pretty much sums it up for me. I have however been dabbling a bit in Devuan just to compare performance. And I'm leaning strongly towards the KDE desktop - most likely Kubuntu. Just as you said...
