[ubuntu] Re: How to fix error on an external hard drive

That is one of the many reasons why deleting a paid for Windows partition
to get a Linux only system is a bad idea.
Grub allows lots of options let's make good use of them.

    Re: Screen resolution in consoles

Thanks for the tip but increasing font size in GUI is not what I need
I made a few other test:
When booting in "advanced settings" from Grub it starts with a fail safe low
    screen resolution then...

    Screen resolution in consoles

    Hi
    I upgraded to a 4K TV set.
So after checking the rares demo UHD test transmissions I decided to try connecting a Ubuntu PC to it.
Instead of staying to the old 1920x1080 resolution it was set...
  4. [kubuntu] Re: Video/audio downloading and editing and playing

For video downloading there is a nice Firefox add-on called:
    Video downloadhelper.
Just make sure to have a big swapfile and /tmp directory

Re: Sometimes No WiFi at Boot

At boot in the grub menu if you choose advanced options you can try
    an older kernel.
This menu is very useful each time you suspect an update and for
    many other things.

Re: Sometimes No WiFi at Boot

It is exactly the behavior when your WIFI is subject to interference.
    Try another channel.
Some received a computer or device for Christmas and want to use WIFI too.

Re: Which one to Choose: Fedora or Ubuntu

    I totally agree with that.
And if you have a big hard drive Grub allows you to install a lot of distributions or even twice the same one.
This is the best backup strategy IMHO.

[xubuntu] Re: screen recorder in Ubuntu repository?

It may be OT but I recently tested an HDMI to USB dongle and it may be a nice solution to
    many problems:
    It is cheap
    Does sound too
Capture a lot of modern devices.
It is supported out of the...
  11. Re: Very specific issue with WiFi 5Ghz, need urgent help.

WIFI aerials inside a metal box can give very poor and unreliable results.
If you want to use WIFI I highly recommend using a USB stick at the end of a
    USB cable.
Thus it can be moved and you can...

    Re: Banshee alternative for video

VLC is also useful it plays and record streams from the Internet.
Plays and record channels of air from a DVB dongle or card too.
Looks and works the same in its Windows and Linux version.

[SOLVED] Re: Problem with SDcard in the last 2 Kernels

In fact I found a better solution:
Instead of the rather obscure UUID this is what I now use in my /etc/fstab file:

[SOLVED] Re: Accidently deleted EFI directory

A tip to avoid accidental deleting of partitions is to give them a useful name or label.
I recently discovered that /etc/fstab allows to use Label to mount partitions.
This too can be very useful....

Re: My dad refuses to upgrade his 16.04 laptop

So you mean that an old computer with an old OS is a critical risk for all the brand new ones fully up to date with all their bells and whistles.
Do you sell computers or OS's for a living ?

    [ubuntu_studio] Welle.io and Ubuntu studio

It seems that this software is listed under the video editing category.
In fact it allows receiving digital terrestrial radios in Europe and I think Australia.
I believe it is useless anywhere else...
  18. [ubuntu] Re: Is Samba read/write rate performance on Ubuntu 20.04 capped at around 11MB/s?

  24. [SOLVED] Re: Cannot format NTFS HDD that came from WIN10

You first have to create at least a partition (sda1,sda2, etc)

[SOLVED] Re: Problem with SDcard in the last 2 Kernels

    With no mmcblk1
    The last kernels seemed to...
