Hey, not sure if you're still struggling with this, but I experienced a similar problem on my mbp 8,3. I found that if I booted to Ubuntu through rEFIt, I could not control the backlight brightness....

This worked for me in Natty, but after upgrading to Oneiric it doesn't work. I have the keys remapped since I'm on a laptop without a numpad, but I'm getting the same results. Put Top-Right results...

Great post! I was able to get stereo audio working on my 8,3 MBP (both internal and headphones) a different way:

1. Install gnome-alsamixer

sudo apt-get install gnome-alsamixer
2. Unmute...
