I'll see what the bios upgrade can do. As for the heating, it's not gotten much hotter now than what it was two years ago.
Thanks for the advice. I'll get back if anything new happens.
Thanks for the advice, but I'm using a laptop! Sony VAIO VGN-NR498E and I use it like a desktop - I never move it around. You're sure it's a hardware problem?
I've been using Lucid 10.04 for quite a while now including during the beta testing phase. Everything has been just fine.
Yesterday the system suddenly hanged. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 to take me to...
Wow! Thanks big time :) . A perfect guide. Awesome for sharing all this info with the rest of us.
I'm using Gnome Shell from the PPA with Lucid Lynx's beta. I really like it! But background applications like Transmission and Gwibber don't show in the system tray when minimized.
If I close...
Turning off Gnome failsafe worked for me.
But initially I didn't know what failsafe was. So for those in the same boat, when you log out (not shut down), there's an option in the login screen at...
I can finally confirm that this is SOLVED in Lucid Lynx 10.04! I'm using the beta and the typing and backspacing in Wordpress in Firefox is as smooth as it gets.
Good job canonical. At least now...
It works! Thanks a whole bunch!
I'm using Karmic and I can't find "Services" under System->Administration - is there another workaround for this?
I've just been testing the release candidate for Karmic and the problem seems to have improved. The backspacing is nowhere near as slow as it was in Jaunty.
But there is still a delay...
Thanks for the clear instructions!
I'm eagerly awaiting the release of Karmic Koala which has improved support for Intel Graphic chipsets. Let's see if that solves the problem. I certainly hope so!
I'm sanguine because the typing...
I'm fairly sure this particular problem isn't related to the usual Firefox problems (plugins, themes, install etc.) I've tried all the usual options and nothing helps.
Also, as someone has earlier...
I agree that Chromium doesn't have this problem and I'm sure it'll be a very viable option for power users soon. But till that time, we still need to figure out why this problem is plaguing Firefox...
Thanks a whole bunch - very useful!
Hooray! Thank you! - it's there. Now why didn't the documentation mentioned that? Two days of hunting comes to an end :)
I'm trying to install Tracker Search, but after installation, when I run "trackerd", I get:
trackerd: command not found
Other tracker tools such as preferences and tracker search are all there,...
I've also just realized that Gnome-do doesn't index the contents of the files...but there's a "Tracker Plugin" that I've enabled and I've just installed Tracker - waiting to see how the two work...
What a coincidence! I've just installed it - and I must say it seem pretty amazing so far...
I've been using Google Desktop for Ubuntu and want to switch. It hogs my hard disk at startup, and I don't want that.
Previously I had rejected beagle/tracker since they didn't index gmail. Now...
I upgraded the Kernel a while back and found the same problem :(
Try firefox-3.5 --profilemanager - does that help?
I found this useful: http://webupd8.blogspot.com/2009/06/firefox-35-rc-1-ubuntu-repository-deb.html and am using the latest version now - It's called Shiretoko though (it's not a beta or a RC) and...
Firefox 3.5 final has just been released. I'm using Jaunty and want to install the latest (and greatest). Will it automatically appear in the updates a day or so from now?
If not, I want to...
