My experience was the same except after step 6 mine says "connecting to PC" and then does nothing and eventually times out.

as far as I know, you run scan-key-tool via

    brscan-skey

and it runs as a background process. Check to see if it's running via:
  10. Re: Scan button on Brother DCP-L2550DW does not work "No PC found"

On the printer driver install instructions it does say to go to http://localhost:631/printers and modify some parameters:

Open a web browser and go to "http://localhost:631/printers".

  11. Re: Scan button on Brother DCP-L2550DW does not work "No PC found"

I've installed that already along with: "linux printer driver". "scanner driver" and the "scanner setting file" (udev rule).

I'm aware that it isn't magic. As far as I'm aware it HAS been...
  12. Re: Scan button on Brother DCP-L2550DW does not work "No PC found"

The user manual only shows how to set it up via Windows or Mac. It says you need their software. Openprinting says this works "perfect" so there has to be some other solution.
  13. Re: I have to press reset button twice for ubuntu to reboot or shutdown

Yes I've got pop_os theme installed. (the pop_os repo that I had to add is not set as primary though so updates will pull from bionic repo as it should).

I also have dash to panel and dash to dock...

I ways worry with VMs that I will still somehow manage to somehow mess up my bare metal system
  18. Re: GUI backup software that allows restoration of specific user specified files

I'll definitely give this a shot. Probably going to test it on my raspberry pi though in case I botch something again....like deleting my /bin lol (by the way, Timeshift successfully restored my root...
  19. Re: GUI backup software that allows restoration of specific user specified files

Thanks! I will consider this. Agreed, I need to learn to use the cli for more things, but I'm still learning and have to prioritize. Right now, so I have SOME backups, I'm probably going to stick...
  20. Re: GUI backup software that allows restoration of specific user specified files

I have had issues with Deja dup in the past, not running when it should, and it's gui is lacking. Might as well use rsync on cli at that point.

  25. Re: Make executable bash script run with sudo privileges?
