According to Apple you can boot to an SD card if the card is formatted properly.

After nearly 3 weeks of head banging I woke up and over coffee, it had fixed itself! ):P
I stopped getting a wifi connect a couple weeks ago. I do have internet by ethernet sharing. My 2 windows boxes and 2 mac boxes connect fine to Worcester-Guest, The ubuntu box used to work fine here....

The first problem is the drive is an HFS+ format and Ubuntu reads that format but not writes it. Ubuntu can R,W FAT32, and EXT4.
As for the drive name, enclose it in quotes is one solution.
