    No, I do not have any graphics issue or black screen. Installing Ubuntu 12.10 adds a third Option which is called "ubuntu" to the options for booting (the other 2s are being from DVD and Hard Drive)....

    I don't have Windows 7 OS any longer and as you mentioned perhaps this is an old EFI. However I made sure I have deleted every single partitions before installation and recreated them under Ubuntu....

    What do you mean by UEFI menu set? Are you referring to BIOS boot menu and selecting "ubuntu" there instead of "Windows Boot Manager"?

    I also have an SSD on my ASUS laptop which I don't think is the cause. I solved the issue by installing some of the libraries which lightdm had on 12.04 but missing on 12.10. The easy way to do this...
