But not necessarily for the data.
i don't do video or anything else that creates lots of data, but my 500Gb disk is half full.

She has a total of 16GB of data. So a 120GB SSD is plenty!
if she starts doing something that creates loads of data I can do this. I remember doing it for someone else's computer.
This was a...
Agreed, I used to use about 20GB. I think I've got 40 now, I did it to have plenty of space for Flatpaks and for creating the one I've written as I suspect something gets put there rather than /home....
Thanks for reading my query properly before answering. You have suggested some good options, but of course the first thing would be to ask her how much data she has! I was thinking in terms of my own...
A friend has just bought a reconditioned desktop. It has IMHO a stupidly small SSD of 120GB. She also has a decent sized HDD. I haven't seen the computer yet, so can't be sure there will be room for...
I am creating a Flatpak for my application. To learn the process with Gnome Builder I have used the start menu to pull "Music" which is listed as an example to try, but when I try to build it I get...
I've had a helpful answer from WikiLovesMonuments so I will persevere with it.
Is there a particular driver for that site then? As mentioned in my first message, everything else is fine - even similar things like Google Maps and Open Street Map.
In the spirit of open source I would like to contribute photos to wikilovesmonuments at http://wlmuk.toolforge.org, but it is so slow that it is completely unusable. I have a PC with 2 x 3.4GHZ...
I've added them to posts on forums but never used them to search for anything on forums. They are at the bottom of the image:
@ml9104 Lol! I've just remembered that Ubuntu Forums uses tags. Tags for this thread are 20.04, firefox, processor 100%
Sorry @ml9104 I should have posted that I have since found the bookmarks. I would have to convert all my tags to bookmarks and it would still be clumsy and slow to get at them.
Used on forums a...
@poorguy I'm having a look at Opera and it does look slick and use less processor power. However I have found that it doesn't use tags or at least import and preserve them in case I want to switch to...
@mlp104 I consider the whole problem to be solved. It doesn't matter to me if the CPU is being hammered so long as it is doing the job and I can't hear it :)
@ml9104 Cough, splutter, choke! The CPU fan filter and the heatsink were 30-50% clogged up and the output slots were almost blocked up. My computer fan is now just ticking over and even on a video it...
@ml9104 That sounds like good sense, and it is within my technical ability. Getting the vacuum out too might be beyond it.
I've done a longer test on Opera and the results were CPU 70%, memory 55% (no swap use).
GumTree has its problems, but I can't think of anything better.
Unfortunately Ublock Origin seems to stop...
I tried two ideas from the link, running browser in safe mode made no difference, disabling hardware acceleration about 5% - but that's probably not really significant as I'm not doing a very strict...
Where should I look for such scripts?
Opera was using a lot of processor power, so the fans were making a lot of noise.
@poorguy Firefox with NVIDIA used 95%, Opera with default used 65%. So NVIDIA saved 5% and Opera 35%, which is 7x as much. That was on YouTube video. On a a recent run of a sound file though, Opera...
@Autodave I was running Wayland when I switched to NVIDIA and nothing happened, so I assumed it was working, however I've just restarted to see whether the Wayland option came up it didn't. It must...
I think swapping to Opera may fix it, so I'll stick with that for a while. Thanks to all the posters for their advice - and tact! I avoid another {nameless} forum now because the aim of the posters...
NVIDIA driver reduces CPU to 95%.
Opera reduces it to about 65% which might be good enough. When dormant it's about 10% which is fine.
@Poorguy, @CelticWarrior and @ml9104
NVIDIA driver: I should obviously try this (I think I was using it but switched back to try to fix LibreOffice).
Opera: I think I've only ever tried that very...
