  1. Re: HOW TO: Change Ubuntu 10.04 WM buttons to 9.10 placement/order

    True. :)

Still, I hope the devs get smart and add a checkbox or something of that sort to the Appearance menu.
  2. Re: HOW TO: Change Ubuntu 10.04 WM buttons to 9.10 placement/order

Yeah, that's the way I was thinking.

It's really easier to just paste a line into Terminal. (Good thinking though)
  3. Re: HOW TO: Change Ubuntu 10.04 WM buttons to 9.10 placement/order

It's really more of a pain to go that route than to paste in a line of code unfortunately. (If it's the way I'm thinking, that is.)
  4. Re: HOW TO: Change Ubuntu 10.04 WM buttons to 9.10 placement/order

I don't think anyone here is disillusioned with Ubuntu...

...just a little frustrated that the art team pulled this change in a late alpha just before the UI freeze. Ubuntu Tweak...
  5. [other] Re: Any advantage to Many OS's (Linux)?

    Good point.
  6. [other] Re: Any advantage to Many OS's (Linux)?

There may not be much use to having multiple Linux OS's but it certainly is fun, and it allows you to see what you like/dislike in each.
  7. Re: HOW TO: Change Ubuntu 10.04 WM buttons to 9.10 placement/order

And this is the fundamental problem with which Linux has been plagued.

If it is to be adopted by the masses, the user needs a graphical means for customization built in to the OS itself.

    This...
  8. Re: HOW TO: Change Ubuntu 10.04 WM buttons to 9.10 placement/order

I don't give a crud what MS and Apple think!

Linux is meant to be customizable by the user. A key reason users switch to Linux is to get away from the restrictions of MS and Apple.
  9. Re: HOW TO: Change Ubuntu 10.04 WM buttons to 9.10 placement/order

It's a key option for users. So absolutely I want it to be.

Something this basic should not require users to download Ubuntu-Tweak.
  10. Re: HOW TO: Change Ubuntu 10.04 WM buttons to 9.10 placement/order

That's true, you can do that too. :)
  11. Re: HOW TO: Change Ubuntu 10.04 WM buttons to 9.10 placement/order

That's great - but it needs to be built in to the OS.

Re: Office file format icons for humanity

If we went with iWork style icons, we would need a different icon for each file type - as these icons show .doc, .docx, .odt, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx, etc.

Merk42's icons are simple, true, and...
  13. Re: HOW TO: Change Ubuntu 10.04 WM buttons to 9.10 placement/order

    Thanks, Appier. :)

    Hopefully it helps someone.

I just think the button change was an idiotic move by the art team. We've been used to the right-side buttons for years - and then they switch it...

[ubuntu] Re: what is the safest latest kernel

    DarinB,

It's possible there was a bug in kernel version 2.6.31.14 that was causing your crashes. It's also possible that this bug has been fixed in later versions.

    Personally, I would try to...
  15. HOW TO: Change Ubuntu 10.04 WM buttons to 9.10 placement/order

For now, here's how to change the maximize, minimize, close buttons to the right hand side:

    gconftool-2 --set “/apps/metacity/general/button_layout” --type string “:maximize,minimize,close”

For the time being, here's how to change the buttons back to where they should be:

Re: New Ubuntu Design Overhaul is reality!!!

Here's the problem though: The average user won't have a clue how to do this - and they should not have to do so in order to change such a simple setting.

This should be a graphical option in the...

    [SOLVED] Re: hundreds of updates

Yeah it's pretty normal for Ubuntu to have a few hundred updates at a time. I'm just glad that Ubuntu is actually maintained on a daily basis - unlike Windows...which has security holes that stay...
