  1. Poll: Re: How-To: Dell 1390 WLAN (Broadcom 4311 [14e4:4311]) for Laptops using ndiswrapper

I can't say for sure, but I don't believe the 4315 chipset ever worked with ndiswrapper. This definitely isn't the thread to be following for it regardless.

I think you might have more luck...
  2. Poll: Re: How-To: Dell 1390 WLAN (Broadcom 4311 [14e4:4311]) for Laptops using ndiswrapper

G'day paperdiesel! Yeah, I don't think it's really needed so much any more. I can't test thoroughly myself though, since I no longer have the laptop with the relevant card. I'm using Gentoo these...
  3. Re: Motorola Dext/Droind depending what side of the pond you are from!

Hmm... seems you do need root access to be able to receive files from anywhere. Security issues mean you have to make the phone rather a bit less secure in order to do it.

    If the other device...
  4. Re: Motorola Dext/Droind depending what side of the pond you are from!

Yeah, it's fairly useful. You mention file transfer not being there without a third-party addition, what about pairing the phone with a bluetooth headset, or another slave device?
  5. Re: Motorola Dext/Droind depending what side of the pond you are from!

The Dext only runs Android 1.6, so it's quite possibly already there in the more recent versions of Android. I'll check on my Desire once I get it back. Bluetooth is one of the things I didn't trial...
  6. Re: Motorola Dext/Droind depending what side of the pond you are from!

Yes it's a little annoying. There's also no stock file browser, terminal emulator, process manager, calculator, etc, etc. So long as you can get them from the market it's not too big a deal.

    Given...
  7. Poll: Re: How-To: Dell 1390 WLAN (Broadcom 4311 [14e4:4311]) for Laptops using ndiswrapper

Try using another network manager. I (and a lot of other people) have never had much success using nm-applet (the default gnome network manager). I'd recommend wicd!

The other thing to try is...
  8. Poll: Re: How-To: Dell 1390 WLAN (Broadcom 4311 [14e4:4311]) for Laptops using ndiswrapper

Sounds good! I'm not sure what package ndiswrapper comes in these days. It used to be in linux-ubuntu-modules, but it sounds like that package doesn't exist any more. I've switched to Gentoo, so I...
  9. Poll: Re: How-To: Dell 1390 WLAN (Broadcom 4311 [14e4:4311]) for Laptops using ndiswrapper

I've actually had that problem myself! It's rather frustrating, especially when you know that all the outputs are telling you that the card is there and the drivers can talk to it fine but it's just...

[SOLVED] Re: Help! Ubuntu froze up, now won't boot

Grub has no idea what fdisk or e2fsck are, same as it doesn't know what gnome or kde or xfce is. All you can do with grub (or at a grub prompt) is decide which partition contains the kernel, which...

[SOLVED] Re: Help! Ubuntu froze up, now won't boot

Sounds a lot like your filesystem may have become corrupted.

Gutsy isn't the LTS, Hardy is, although there will be a new LTS soon I believe. As it stands, I don't think Gutsy is supported any...
  12. Re: Howto: Simple upgrade to Hardy's developing kernel - 2.6.24

Seriously, Hardy is the current LTS (long term support) release, you should at the very least do a complete upgrade to that, not just attempt to upgrade the kernel. Security updates and backports for...
  13. Re: All Logitech MX Mouse Buttons (MX610) - The Quick & Easy Guide

It depends on your desktop environment. Most of them seem to want to try and configure mouse settings and all that themselves, so when the session manager starts it overwrites whatever settings hal...

    Re: HowTo: Partitioning Basics

As you've discovered, yes it can.

You can do this using your /etc/fstab (check man fstab for useful info).

Yes, but you wouldn't be able to log in, as your user's home directory would...

Re: Turn off (mute) system beep

Yep, the name of the module changed in kernel 2.6.31. Well, it might have changed in 2.6.30 as well, I'm not sure, I just don't build it into my kernel anymore! :P
  16. [ubuntu] Re: problem with wireless router D-link WBR 1310, Ubuntu 8.04

The default gnome network manager has always been rather irritating and buggy. My first suggestion would be to try a different network manager. wicd is what I use.
  17. [ubuntu] Re: problem with wireless router D-link WBR 1310, Ubuntu 8.04

So now that you've fixed your driver issues, can you connect to the router wirelessly? If not, what happens when you try?
  18. Poll: Re: How-To: Dell 1390 WLAN (Broadcom 4311 [14e4:4311]) for Laptops using ndiswrapper

No output is exactly as expected and rebooting undoes what those commands just did, which is why lshw returns the same thing. You need to blacklist wl for any changes to persist, else it will...
  19. Poll: Re: How-To: Dell 1390 WLAN (Broadcom 4311 [14e4:4311]) for Laptops using ndiswrapper

    Always happy to help!

If you notice the new alternate driver is listed as `wl', and that this wl0 driver is claiming the card. I haven't encountered this module before, but you should be able to...
  20. Poll: Re: How-To: Dell 1390 WLAN (Broadcom 4311 [14e4:4311]) for Laptops using ndiswrapper

b43 not being loaded is a good thing if you're trying to use ndiswrapper. All you should then have to do is load ndiswrapper and all should be happy. Can you post the rest of the suggested debug...

[ubuntu] Re: HELP: Dell Inspiron 5100 Drivers for Ubuntu?

Making a new thread is your best bet if you really can't find anything with a search. You'll need to know and post whatever wireless card is in the machine for anyone to be able to help. Something...
  22. Poll: Re: How-To: Dell 1390 WLAN (Broadcom 4311 [14e4:4311]) for Laptops using ndiswrapper

What do you mean you don't have an interface? You have wlan0, and you can see a couple of networks through it.

The problem at the moment appears to be with wpa_supplicant (the authentication...
  23. Poll: Re: How-To: Dell 1390 WLAN (Broadcom 4311 [14e4:4311]) for Laptops using ndiswrapper

Haha, well from a driver perspective, everything is fine!

About all I can suggest is to try connecting to your network without any encryption, if that works fine, turn the encryption back on and...

[ubuntu] Re: HELP: Dell Inspiron 5100 Drivers for Ubuntu?

Broadcom wireless will work fine with a marginal amount of effort, it really doesn't take much, certainly not worth the cost of buying a new card if that's the only reason to do so!

    Doesn't sound...
