I've made you think about it? Hmmm..
I was merely shouting your name to say "Hi!".
;)
If you intend to try out Chakra, I also recommend you try out Arch.
Arch has the advantage of top-notch documentation and quite an active, established community.
The two projects have very...
I am confused by distributions which are based on other distributions.
For instance, why use a distribution based on Arch, when you can simply use Arch, and customize it to your own needs while...
Hardware: I view many of the Mac offerings over the years as mostly proprietary bricks.
Software: iMovie was brilliant when I used it.
I just wait for handy to say something witty.

How could you not hate it?
Nothing a little threadlock won't fix.

Plan 9 from Bell Labs and OpenBSD are the highest quality operating systems.
Not quite sure what is meant by 'best' in this instance.
I don't use either system, but Debian is a tried-and-true, high quality system with a good, solid stable branch.
What will you be missing? I honestly don't think you will be missing or regretting...

BTW, tar.gz is a combination of a tar archive further compressed using the gzip algorithm.
What did it ever do to you?
If you do decide to try it, have fun and enjoy. 'Read the manual' and you should be good to go.
Also, if you have trouble, be sure and register at the forums and stop in for some assistance.
I use Arch.
I have rarely, if ever, recommended it on these forums. However, it might just give you what you are looking for in this case because its installation procedure is a well documented...
Do we need another OS? I don't know, but Haiku makes me believe..
What a sweet little OS.
Source?
Who cares?
'Package for Ubuntu'?
Distribution developers do the packaging for their own repositories.
This in itself makes this whole issue a moot point.
Agreed completely.
With open source, the distro is a non-issue. Even binary blobs are distro-agnostic, only relying on kernel version and hardware spec.
Simple and straightforward using ABS.
See

One could easily make the argument that any system with a package manager could potentially 'fail miserably' at providing an OS that 'only has the stuff you want on it' especially in the hands of an...
The "diversity is both a strength and a weakness" argument has been stated many times.
Overall though, it inarguably keeps GNU/Linux both fragmented and marginalized, which is a bad thing, depending...
Though the two resulting systems will be using very similar software, they are nonetheless targeted at very different crowds and have completely different goals.
One tries to keep things simple,...
LFS is NOT a distro..it is an instruction manual, or 'book'.
You may find it tedious, or you may love it. Like anything else, you won't know till you try it.
The resulting system is extremely...
revdep-rebuild creates a list of missing shared library dependencies and using emerge, re-emerges the broken packages and corresponding libraries. Fixing this kind of breakage on any binary distro...
*sigh* revdep-rebuild is a tool which was implemented to address a common issue inherent to source-based systems.
It is extremely rare on a binary system to have a library version mismatch. Further,...
