I have this laptop working well with Ubuntu 14.04. It requires a WiFi tweak as detailed in the bug report on Launchpad #1454843. The laptop does not work well with Ubuntu 16.04.

Thanks for your help and suggestions. I got the Me-TV icon to appear in the panel (top bar) by editing the Unity whitelist in dconf to 'all'.

For me the problem turned out to be with the repository sources - when I enabled the correct repositories gThumb installed correctly. Hope that is of help and sorry for the delay in responding.
