    Just for the record, this worked on my gateway 6860-fx. The mic always get re-muted when I close the volume control box, but it's useable. Thank you very much!

    Yes! Now I remember, the article that I said wasn't there anymore was instructions on how to remove pulseaudio. I don't have time to try it out now, but I should have time in the next couple of days...
