I think that your laptop features nvidia hybrid graphics (although I'm not sure - you need to consult the specs).
This means that video acceleration will not work out of the box with ubuntu, or the...
I have Kubuntu 11.10 installed on this (the i7 + nVidia dedicated graphics config)
There is only one problem that I'm having, which is recognizing multigestures on the touchpad. That's basically...
Have you tried also deleting the config files in your home directory (the ones you edited?)
Mine, for instance, are located in ~/.config/vlc
Also clive version 2.2.26 is working for me.
Because these programs are not really 100% approved by video streaming sites like yahoo, you can always expect they break almost every time they change...
To be honest, I don't really know what's wrong with nohup in this case, but I strongly recommend using byobu instead (https://launchpad.net/byobu)
With byobu, you can just issue the command in a...
If most of your data consists of movies, songs and photos, don't bother with compression.
These are probably already stored in compressed formats, you have nothing to gain.
You need to put your public ip (the one that your ISP assigned to you) in the zone file. This way, people trying to visit one of your domains will get your public ip.
if you have lots of memory, go with netbeans (http://netbeans.org/). You can also find it in the repositories. Netbeans is heavy weight, but great for complex projects.

I changed swappines to 10 from the default 60.
I can definitely confirm that the swapping is down and the system is more responsive. Also it looks to be better than just turning the swap off.
I...
I'll try changing the swappiness and post back here about how that worked out for me.
Thanks for the references.
I can confirm this issue on a Dell Optiplex 380 running Kubuntu 10.04. I get swapping although the RAM is far from being exhausted. As a workaround I do this on startup (as root):
$ swapoff -a

cd to /home/dir and then try this:
find -maxdepth 1 -type d -exec zip -r '{}'.zip '{}' \;
This will output a zip archive for each folder on the first sublevel of /home/dir (note maxdepth=1).
I always use recordMyDesktop (gtk version to be more exact) to make screen casts. If I remember correctly, it outputs the recording in ogv format, so I use mencoder to convert it to avi, I think that...

I hear that about uTorrent a lot, but I don't get it... While uTorrent is great, I use ktorrent under Kubuntu and I find it to be at least on par with uTorrent. Also consider Deluge
As long as you installed KDE using the software center, you don't need to do anything, the KDE packages will get updated along with all the others. Like harrismh777 said, it's the same system, but...
Go with KDE.
I have switched over to Kubuntu for about a year now after using the default Gnome for several years before. For me, KDE is definitely better than Gnome, at least until they release...
Try clive: http://code.google.com/p/clive/
You can install it from the repositories as well

For what it's worth, I can confirm that changing the NetworkingEnabled to true in /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state solved the problem for me too.
Thank you
It won't affect your partitioning, KDE is just another software package. Go for it.
I think there's an option to change language at the login screen.

I think this will do the trick, but I'm not...
Latest kernel upgrade from 2.6.31-16 to 2.6.31-17 seems to have solved it. Hopefully there will be no regressions when the next release arrives.
Hello,
I know there are already plenty of suspend issues threads, but I think my problem is different and I was unable to find any other similar reports on the forums.
I run Kubuntu 9.10 karmic...
Postfix handles that with maildrop by default - or at least I don't remember ever having to configure an extra MDA for use with postfix.
