You need to delete the hidden .mplayer folder from your home directory. Possibly just deleteing the file codecs.conf from that folder should be enough.
It could still be a problem for you as the GPU will be getting hot instead of CPU. However the GPU should be more effecient at decoding than the CPU, According to some benchmarks here at Anandtech....
