  1. Re: use Skype with Jaunty notifcations (notify-osd)

Thanks for the script, it seems to be working well for me.

It took me a while to work out that I had to install the package python-indicate before it would work. Probably a good idea to mention it...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: XBMC - Boxee - Mythbuntu. What's the best choice?

Check out Elisa, It is not as mature as XBMC but works flawlessly on 64-bit. I use it on my TV that is connected as a second monitor to watch videos and play music, it does the job nicely. I tried...

[ubuntu] Re: Using Avidemux to fix sync issues

I used to run the files through a java program called projectX which cleans up and repairs sync issues with mpeg files. The way it works is to demux (seperate) the audio and video stream into two...

[ubuntu] Re: Using Avidemux to fix sync issues

First you need to open the file in avidemux, then make sure that on the left video and audio are both set to copy.
Check that format underneath is set to the same as the original file.

    Tick the...
  6. Re: NVIDIA Releases New Video API For Linux : VDPAU

You need to delete the hidden .mplayer folder from your home directory. Possibly just deleteing the file codecs.conf from that folder should be enough.
  7. Re: NVIDIA Releases New Video API For Linux : VDPAU

It could still be a problem for you as the GPU will be getting hot instead of CPU. However the GPU should be more effecient at decoding than the CPU, According to some benchmarks here at Anandtech....
  8. Re: NVIDIA Releases New Video API For Linux : VDPAU

Cards earlier than the 8*** series can use XvMC acceleration with the NVIDIA driver, so they already have some GPU video acceleration. Later cards currently have no acceleration at all.

    For me...

[ubuntu] Re: VLC 0.9.4 Windowed Video Output

I've been having the same problem.

    From the ppa administrator's page:

Apparently the bug has been fixed so hopefully the next version that he builds will have this functionality re-enabled.
  10. [all variants] Re: Compiz on your NVIDIA 8xxx series card- what works for you?

I think that in Ubuntu the file called compiz is just a script that starts up compiz, I think the actual executable is called compiz.real.

Sorry I can't test this as my compiz is currently...
  11. [all variants] Re: Compiz on your NVIDIA 8xxx series card- what works for you?

If you are using the beta driver (177.67 or higher) you need to do a few things to see the improvements.

    from http://nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=118088

    This improved things for my...
  12. [all variants] Re: Boycott NVIDIA, use AMD/ATI discrete graphics or Intel

    Newer nvidia cards suck.

From 8xxx cards onwards nvidia don't and seemingly have no plans to provide any video decoding acceleration in their drivers. So I cant watch any 720p videos without...
