  1. [ubuntu] Re: Remmina not running on fresh 12.04 installation why?

Broken for me on new 12.04 as well. This is on windows hosts that worked fine with rdesktop.

First "Unity", and now this... I can't take any more "improvements", lol
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Firefox - invisible bookmark adding window.

Are you running somewhat old hardware by any chance? Wonder if it is a legacy graphics support problem.
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Firefox - invisible bookmark adding window.

You're not the only one :(

Similar symptoms for me as for you. Just did an update moments ago, and now up to Firefox 13 and the problem persists. Did all the stuff other threads have...

[ubuntu] Re: Slow resume from standby

Still there, surprisingly. Running on a newly installed and updated 10.04 on a HP/Compaq Evo lappy. Also spends a loooong time in standby with the disk light on solid.

    Might as well start using...

[ubuntu] Re: Does Ubuntu work fine on an SSD?

    Please double check this.

I have read that only EXT4 supports it as a mount option. EXT3 implements it partially-- only on an ioctl() basis for manually invoked garbage collection clis. I've...

[ubuntu] Re: Does Ubuntu work fine on an SSD?

Perhaps, but TRIM is not enabled by default. It would be nice if installers detected SSDs, but they do not seem to be SSD aware.

I haven't checked 12.04 yet, but one has to manually alter the...
  7. Re: How to Optimize your Internet Connection using MTU and RWIN

This is an old-ish thread, but wanted to add a tip. Instead of varying the ping size to infer the mtu size, you can do it directly by giving ping a mtu hint.

    $ ping -s 50000 -c 1 -M do...

[ubuntu] Re: CPU Frequency Scaling and Governors

cpufreq-set seems to set the max frequency for all governors. It doesn't seem to change a single governor, is that correct?

    I did

    cpufreq-set --governor conservative --max 1333000

    When I...

[ubuntu] Re: CPU Frequency Scaling and Governors

Thanks, this worked great, exactly what I needed.

For my machines, the "conservative" governor is useless. It behaves exactly like OnDemand, instead of raising the cpu cap slowly. So I modified...

[ubuntu] CPU Frequency Scaling and Governors

From reading what I could find and also using gnome's applet, it seems that there are two ways to control cpu speed:

    a) setting a specific clock speed
    b) selecting a governor (conservative,...
  11. [all variants] Re: Easy question for you?? Rescue data from flaky/failing HDD

Doesn't this write a new filesystem over /dev/sda6? It will write out a list of superblocks, but *new ones*. It won't find existing superblocks?

Sorry to dredge up an old thread :) But this...

[ubuntu] Re: can not Hibernate with 8.04 on Dell D630

Unfortunately, I updated Hardy a week ago, and now hibernate is broken again.

The Dell seems to hibernate fine. I see the disk working as it is writing the image to swap. But on resume, it just...

[ubuntu] Re: Hardy - Hibernate Restarting?

I should add that the following works fine on my laptop

    - Hardy Suspend/Resume
    - Gutsy Suspend/Resume
    - Gutsy Hibernate/Resume

[ubuntu] Re: Hardy - Hibernate Restarting?

I also have this problem. Hardy on Dell Latitude D610 laptop.

When hibernating, all looks fine. I see disk activity, followed by a power down. When trying to resume from the hibernate, it does...

[ubuntu] Re: can not Hibernate with 8.04 on Dell D630

An update does not fix it for me on a D610. Just to make sure my system wasn't hacky, I even wiped the hard disk, freshly installed Hardy, then did an update. No go, hibernate failes on "suspending...
  16. [ubuntu] Write Speed stuck on Maximum and grayed out??

I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 on a Dell Latitude D610. When I try to burn a data cd using Nautilus, the familiar dialog box for burning has the write speed on maximum. It is unchangeable and grayed out. I...
