  1. [ubuntu] Re: Dual boot windows with Ubuntu Using UEFI, and NOT modifying the MBR

Perhaps now it's time for you to try to understand UEFI, its requirements (particularly important for Windows) and how it boots. Namely, any Windows installed in UEFI mode is in a GPT drive which...

No special software is needed to access its internal storage.

"WPA1 WPA2" is a problem in itself. WPA2 only is what should be. Please check the router settings.

Which OS is the host and which one is the guest?

In any case Windows 7 is out of support and shouldn't be used connected to the internet.

    Re: Can't install CUDA

Once again you're asserting things that are disproved by the results. If you had purged the older drivers only 440 version would show up but this is what you posted before (in bold what shouldn't or...

    Re: Can't install CUDA

In your other thread, specifically in post #18 , it shows 3 different driver versions installed: 390, 418 and 440. This is, in a nutshell, a horrible mess.

    As CatKiller correctly pointed out:

Any of the things you did had to do with BIOS/UEFI settings? Typically in a a new UEFI system we would need to disable Secure Boot to allow loading of the Virtualbox drivers for virtual hardware (or...

Can you try the monitor with a different computer?
  10. [lubuntu] Re: 19.10 - weird SDDM issue with flash/strobo login screen and boot

The hardware, especially graphics, is very different. On the other hand, languages have nothing to do with it.
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Sound devices disappeared in Ubuntu 19.10...

You can try booting with an older kernel to see if it makes a difference or not.
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Sound devices disappeared in Ubuntu 19.10...

No, it isn't related to Virtualbox. It can be related with your experiments though but we can't/shouldn't speculate about it without knowing exactly what you did right before noticing the problem.

[ubuntu] Re: Format new micro SD card

A new 128GB microSD card is likely formatted as exFAT for which support must be installed (there's no native, "out of the box" support in desktop Linux yet).

But, of course, you can format it...

For old laptops (and if you don't mind a desktop with an oldish look&feel), an Ubuntu flavor called Lubuntu will work better, more fluid. This should be your concern instead of the attempt to bring...
  15. Re: NVIDIA driver issue ... still unresolved

UEFI is what replaced the old BIOS. It has nothing to do with the OS. Whenever you see UEFI mentioned just think "BIOS".

And again I have to insist: Disable Secure Boot in UEFI ("BIOS"). You said...

    1. Via firmware (UEFI) as already mentioned. It may or may not have such option and you asking for elaboration really doesn't inspire confidence about you PC...

[ubuntu] Re: How to install mplayer2

You can't and it will be a waste of time, energy and money.

[ubuntu] Re: 18.04 - will not recognize dvd

means that is very likely defective. Try a bootable CD and a bootable DVD to confirm.

  21. Re: NVIDIA driver issue ... still unresolved

    1. 418 is probably deprecated; install the newest version recommended for your own Nvidia graphics card.

    2. Probably because you have Secure Boot enabled in UEFI.

    Furthermore, it's better to...

    Welcome.

"Resolution is on max" (whatever you mean by this) doesn't mean it is the correct native resolution for your monitor.
