[ubuntu] Re: cannot detect USB in virtualbox

    This guide may help you:
    http://www.ubuntu-unleashed.com/2008/04/howto-install-virtualbox-in-hardy-heron.html

You obviously already have it installed but check the USB section.
  13. [ubuntu] Re: Can't open Synaptic Package Manager

As swisscow says, the last six lines are wrong, just remove them and you should be fine.
  14. [ubuntu] Re: Can't open Synaptic Package Manager

Paste in the sources.list file here, it looks like you have a typo in it.

[all variants] Re: Mirror Text Tool Online or program?

The GIMP will do the job. It's in the repos, it might even be installed already. :)

Re: Does anyone use the Terminal over the GUI?

I use the terminal for all "simple" tasks. Move, copy, unpack, pack, symlink, compile and so on. It's an old habit.
For installing from the repos it's 50/50 I'd say. Sometimes GUI sometimes terminal.
  17. [ubuntu] Re: Win - Linux Transition - Similar Software?

I would like to add some more suggestions apart from the ones already mentioned. :)

    1. Krita

    2. Quanta Plus
  18. [ubuntu] Re: Just got a Nikon D40 camera -- how to use with linux?

Try digiKam. It's very easy to use and you can edit the images directly in digikam, no need to use an external program.

    It's in the repos.

    :)
  19. [ubuntu] Re: A new computer, possible to partition from freedos?

I've had my "fileshare" for a few years, If I was to buy a new hdd and redo this I'd definitely make it ntfs.
  20. [ubuntu] Re: A new computer, possible to partition from freedos?

I agree, partition during XP installation. Make the extra partitions that you will later use for linux. I've done like this; I run XP with NTFS filesystem and I partition my future linux partitions...

You are typing it wrong. The correct way is:

Re: Do Not Buy Nvidia Cards For Linux!!!!

    I have a 7900GS and it's super smooth, both in 3D and in 2D.
"2D desktop" without any 3D loaded is fast and snappy, I've never had issues with it.

I normally use Compiz though. ;)
