No idea why that worked... but same model of laptop (compaq NC6220) and wifi LED is now blinking happily away.

  2. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 - Battery level critically low at 85%?

The "gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power 'use-time-for-policy' 'false'" workaround stopped the suspend issue, but it still tells me I have 0:02 left on my battery.

    I purposely...

[SOLVED] Re: Disable 'Waiting for Network' during boot

I now have the same problem after upgrading from 10.10 -> 11.04 -> 11.10. It also hangs waiting for nfs mounts, something that did not happen in 10.10, I'm not sure about 11.04 since I only booted it...

I'm only going to bump this once as it appears that this type of thing may be custom only.

[ubuntu] Re: Unable to copy files to windows box

You are probably going to need to open the share with gksudo as well. I seem to remember issues when dragging files between root instances of nautilus, and non-root ones.

[ubuntu] Re: Unable to copy files to windows box

Check that you have the proper access to the local files to read them. Also check remote folder for proper permissions.

[ubuntu] Re: Unable to copy files to windows box

It sounds related to permissions, other than that, yes you can move files between linux and windows in many ways including over the network,

what type of transfer are you attempting, does your...

I am currently looking for a piece of software that will allow sending email's to customers when certain events occur.

It is for a pharmacy, so the events will contain things like:

  11. Re: Can I use brake cleaner to clean electronic parts??

Ethyl 99% denatured (of course) will work just as good, and doesn't smell all that bad either. It's usually in the bottle with the green label on it at the drug store (at least in the USA).

Re: Formal appeal for removed thread.

Lolcats are also unrelated to Linux, I surely did not solicit them. The forum rules said it doesn't need to be specifically related to Linux, and that is the water cooler forum, perhaps it's time for...

    Formal appeal for removed thread.

I got this message after posting a link in the community cafe to a contest that I entered my son in. I had asked people to take a look at the picture and please cast their vote for him.

    It got...

  17. Re: Can I use brake cleaner to clean electronic parts??

No!, brake cleaner will eat the crap out of your PCB's. They make cleaner specific to cleaning sticky stuff off pcb's. It looks a lot like break cleaner, but is not corrosive.

    I have had lots of...

Re: Ubuntu 10.10 wireless firmware missing

I still like my fix way better as you still end up with a much more stable and speedy wireless interface, and you get to break something in the process.

I will agree with that one for sure.

And since were posting pictures. I have 2 other cats, but they are the type that are rarely seen. Mostly when locked in fierce combat with another cat.

Re: Do cats really love their owners?

4 cats and 2 dogs, and I can tell you that the dogs love you, while the cats use you for food, warmth, and are ready to run out the front door at their earliest convenience.

    I would go dog, and...

Im going to make a vote for the SATA driver floppy. XP needed them loaded from a floppy. It wasn't until Vista that you could load them from USB or CDROM.
  23. Re: Ask the community (Question about what to do with a helicoptor)

  24. Re: Should I max out the RAM on my 5-year-old computer?

    I like to build...
