    [ubuntu] Re: Airlink AWLL6075

I'd hazard a guess that you used the apostrophe rather than the backtick (found left of the "1" key). Try it with the backtick key.

Re: Update Manager Doesn't update system

The expired sources need to be removed from your /etc/apt/sources.list file (or, at the very least, commented out). You might look for other ppas with your desired "up to date" apps, and if found,...

[ubuntu] Re: 10.04 boot from disc blackSOD imac g4

I've a question or two before going any farther (to avoid potential wild-a** guesses): when booting from the cd, you are holding the "c" key down, correct? Thereafter, your display goes totally...

[ubuntu] Re: 10.04 boot from disc blackSOD imac g4

Since OSX boots, this may not be a resolution, but I had similar problems with a G4 cube "back in the day". What worked for me was to reset the PRAM by holding down the Option, "Open Apple", p and r...
  5. [PPC] Re: Fixing Bugs and Other Problems in Ubuntu on a Macintosh

I have the same problem with eject on the Cubes. I try to be quick in "grabbing" the CD-R so it doesn't have a chance to retract; sometimes, I'm successful. :-)
  6. [PPC] Re: Fixing Bugs and Other Problems in Ubuntu on a Macintosh

Yes, run in terminal. Yes, the entire list; that's why I suggested use of code tags.
  7. [PPC] Re: Fixing Bugs and Other Problems in Ubuntu on a Macintosh

On the repository issue, please post your /etc/apt/sources.list for review. I was running 10.04 on a G4 Cube until this morning, and did not have the 404 problems you describe. If I was going to post...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: How do I fix errors trying to update my Ubuntu?

You would enter the code entries in the Terminal, accessed by selecting System from the top toolbar, then selecting Accessories from the drop-down list, then select Terminal from that list. When...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Not possible to install, remove or upgrade software

Is there a separate /boot partition? If so, this may be where the "no room" problem is. I'm guessing that your mother-in-law's computer has many kernels installed. If this is so, you should remove...

Also, if the OP has multiple kernels, deleting an older kernel or kernels using Synaptic will clear space on /boot.

[ubuntu] Re: Install Open Office 3.3.0

You didn't specify which commands were the ones with which you're having no luck. I'll hazard a guess about this, which is a guess. I suspect your d/l is in Downloads. Have you changed to the...

As it is owned by root, preface the command with sudo. You will then enter your password (no visual feedback), press the enter key, and should carry out the command.

    [SOLVED] Re: lost installed packages

fdupes runs from the command line. I suspect it is installed at /usr/bin/fdupes, but you can check by typing

[ubuntu] Re: Dual boot Osx - Ubuntu; mount ext4 in OSX

I'd suggest setting up a partition formatted NTFS which gives r/w abilities in both. Not sure in ext3 anymore (don't use OSX at all), but at one time, could read from but not write to ext3 in OSX.
  17. [xubuntu] Re: Best Linux distribution for 192mb RAM computer

Another option would be Linux Mint XFCE (201104), which is based upon Debian "testing", but has taken some of the work out of configuration.

    [ubuntu] Re: Screen Resolution

Venturing into an area where I have little knowledge or experience is dangerous, but a question: what resolutions are supported by the host system drivers? IIRC, this is a potential limiting factor.
