Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Been absent from this forum for a few years. I finally installed the most recent harryharryharry kernel, Installation with the supplied script was flawless, and the machine booted just fine. ...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Exact same problems here. Even worse, sometimes the machine wakes up from suspend without you realizing it, and draining the battery. The only thing I can tie to it is plugging in the power supply....

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

FYI, the only impact I found relative_sleep_states=1 has is that you run "echo mem" instead of "echo freeze" to suspend.

Here's a few more observations. If you use "intel_idle.max_cstate=0", you...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Yes, I have the same issue (kernel 4.3.0, in case it matters) and here's my work-around. I have a script that runs the freeze/thaw process. After some preparation commands (like turning off...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Just a reminder that there are two idle drivers in the kernel: acpi_idle and intel_idle. When you specify max_cstate other than 0, you will be using the intel_idle driver, but it might not let you...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Here is an update on understanding power consumption with the X205TA. As I pointed out before, this machine does not actually have the familiar S3 "suspend to ram" mode that we have been accustomed...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Yes, it supports mixed-mode. I think I had an option to install 32 or 64 bits for Debian itself. I chose 32 because certain programs that I run (which I wrote myself) make heavy use of pointers,...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Brilliant! Just tried it and it works.

Here is a hint when installing Linux (I'm using Debian Jessie) to get network access - I used a USB-ethernet adapter and a wired ethernet cable. This seems...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

I guess I consider a suspend successful only if it resumes successfully. Lack of wifi with no solution constitutes failure.

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Unfortunately it seems that the report of successful suspend on Linux Mint was a false alarm. Regardless, it is the kernel, not the particular distro, that matters. As an aside, the x205ta uses a...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Yes - that "echo on ..." was going to be my next test, but I'm in the middle of recompiling the kernel, so it will be a bit of time. Very good knowing that it works.

Are we ready to move on to...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Here is a symptom of the problem with wifi on resume.

When one first boots, the following directory exists:
    /sys/devices/platform/INT33BB:00/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:0001

In it there are 3 further...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

OK, that left-click is magic and works on 4.3 (mainline) as well. elan_i2c needs to be kept loaded during suspend because it is what senses the click! Unload and reload after resume to get back...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

You're using kernel 4.4, right? This is progress. For previous machines and kernels I have often had to unload and reload modules as part of suspend/resume and included them as part of the power...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

After editing /etc/default/grub, be sure to run "update-grub".

I've not had any freezes with wireless drivers loaded while using cstate=0. Your mileage may vary.

As I recall, c-states are low...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

I've been running 4.2 and 4.3 with intel_idle.max_cstate=0 with no problem with freezes. Interestingly, it seems to have no noticeable effect on battery life.
