  1. Re: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS install Apache2 2.4.51

I am also running Ubuntu web servers on Long-Term Support.
The current version is 20.04.3 LTS running kernel 5.4.0-88 and Apache 2.4.41

This "is" the latest and most-current version for the...
  2. [SOLVED] Re: 2 swapfiles in /opt, but only one list in fstab?

Not convinced a swap file is that much worse than a partition. Swap files should be fine. The goal is not to utilize the swap file...only have it as an emergency overflow. If you are constantly...
  3. [SOLVED] Re: 2 swapfiles in /opt, but only one list in fstab?

You (or the person setting up your server) was following my tutorial with their own customizations. If you re-read the "Swap File Management" section, it shows how to add and remove swap files...
  4. Re: [ubuntu server 20.04] stop sending crontab mail for all users

You might want to take one specific email and explain exactly how it is being sent. What you described in general does not make any sense to me. Is the server configured to run individual cronjobs...

    Re: Backup server 20.04

Most-definitely yes. My backup approach is very similar to MAFoElffen. I create monthly snapshots of my partitions as well as more frequent full/differential backups of the data.

    I use LVM...
  6. [SOLVED] Re: LetsEncrypt - SSL certificate is not valid

Re-install of binaries won't fix any configuration issues.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP

I would purge everything off the server related to certbot (especially its config files) and then install...
  7. [SOLVED] Re: LetsEncrypt - SSL certificate is not valid

Your installation of certbot is not how I have mine installed so I don't know the differences.

This is how I installed it on my servers:

    sudo apt install certbot python3-certbot-apache

[ubuntu] Re: Cannot remove items from full disk

I have not ever used the "reduce" commands so I have no experience to share other than google searching which I'm sure you could do as well.

I have not removed an LV before either but know its...

[ubuntu] Re: Cannot remove items from full disk

Hold up there boss. Your total size for the VAR volume is 4 GB (as shown by lvs). The size of your /var file system is 2 GB (as shown by the df). That means you have 2 GB of room right?

    Do this...
  10. [SOLVED] Re: LetsEncrypt - SSL certificate is not valid

    ls -l /var/lib/letsencrypt/

    My results:

    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Mar 31 18:22 http_challenges

[ubuntu] Re: Cannot remove items from full disk

Priority #1 is to determine how much free space is in your VAR LV and in your LVG volume group.

If you have free space in VAR, you can simply expand your /var file system depending on how much...
  12. [SOLVED] Re: LetsEncrypt - SSL certificate is not valid

I do not see the [installed] text at the end. How did you install certbot? Compiled from source?

    Try these commands:

    certbot --version
    certbot 0.40.0

    which certbot
    /usr/bin/certbot
  13. [SOLVED] Re: LetsEncrypt - SSL certificate is not valid

I have upgraded all my servers to 20.04 long ago. I'm not experiencing that issue so I'm not sure what can be done to bandaid the issue if it really is an issue with certbot becoming out-of-date on...
  14. [SOLVED] Re: LetsEncrypt - SSL certificate is not valid

Did you add a proxy since the last time the certificate was validated?

[ubuntu] Re: Cannot remove items from full disk

This is true. Removing kernels (even manually) will only affect /boot and /usr/src so your focus should not be on kernel removal (although you should only have just a couple in there by...
  16. Re: Content filtering for just one machine on a network

Or have all go thru the proxy and have different rules on the proxy based on MAC address?

Just a guess. I do not use proxy's for that.

  17. Re: cannot resolve Unknown host (when I add the domain to the hostname)

If you want machines other than the server to recognize it, you will need to look at your local DNS server. For home environments, this is usually the Internet router which typically serves as the...

  19. [server] Re: 20.04: 'apt-get upgrade' added a huge load of packages and threads

If you have not disabled bash history, check the command log to see if there were any "apt install" commands issued under root or any user with sudo access.

    tail -n100 ~/.bash_history
    grep...

Re: File lock not working on shared files

Doesn't MS Office create lock files in the same folder with a similar filename so that if anyone tries to open the same file, Office notices that file and warns the end-user the file is locked?

  24. [server] Re: installer does not recognize luks encrypted boot partition

Maybe this is similar to the issue I had creating a boot partition with LVM. There is some trickery you have to do with the new non-debian installer for some situations but I have not tried LUKS...

[SOLVED] Re: grub-pc upgrade error w/RAID
