[ubuntu] Re: Upgraded to 10.10 and Now No GUI

When u first start up you will see options under grub, choose recovery mode. You will then see a list of options. Choose failsafex.

[ubuntu] Re: Upgraded to 10.10 and Now No GUI

After you get into the GUI in low graphics mode. Go to system < Administration < hardware drivers
I'm guessing there will be an updated driver listed there that you can activate.

[ubuntu] Re: Upgraded to 10.10 and Now No GUI

Ohh and once you get into the gui
check hardware drivers to see if youre driver is listed. Remove it and see if there is another driver listed that you can update
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Do you necessarily have to be online to install?

No you by no means have to be online to install. as long as you have a disc with Ubuntu on it youre good.

[ubuntu] Re: Need Help With Sound/Headphones!!!

if that doesnt work there is a really quick but temporary fix. Go to sound options and change the output to just the headphones. But you would have to change this every time you plugged or unplugged...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: Do you necessarily have to be online to install?

If you already have whatever it is you need to install downloaded and all of the packages dependencies are met, then no, you dont have to be online

what is it youre trying to install?

[ubuntu] Re: Upgraded to 10.10 and Now No GUI

When you get to grub choose recovery mode. Drop to a root shell and type this:

    sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    then type:

    startx
    see if this helps
  15. [ubuntu] Re: 3D accelerated applications start, then close

  18. [ubuntu] Re: 3D accelerated applications start, then close

Ohh a after you install that try deleting the xorg conf file and restarting.
  19. [ubuntu] Re: 3D accelerated applications start, then close

    Have you installed this: xserver-xorg-video-intel
    If not then:

    sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel
  20. [ubuntu] Re: 3D accelerated applications start, then close

  21. [ubuntu] Re: 3D accelerated applications start, then close

  22. [ubuntu] Re: 3D accelerated applications start, then close

What exactly did u put in the xorg.conf. Also try checking your log files again and see of u have any new errors
  23. [ubuntu] Re: 3D accelerated applications start, then close

    Have you tried updating yet?
if you just recently installed then try this

    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

after doing this check hardware drivers again
  24. [ubuntu] Re: 3D accelerated applications start, then close

you know.. I dont know why I havent asked this yet, but is it all the applications wont work or just a few? if just a few, which ones?
  25. [ubuntu] Re: 3D accelerated applications start, then close

Well all you have to do is restart the xserver but a full restart wouldnt hurt
